[Video] Sofirn SC18 Review - Excellent Value

Sofirnlight

Hi there,
thank you for review.

Is it possible to install a 18350 tube?

The body is glued to the head.

thank you.

like your new format of review.
Great review, made me order one.

Jealous as sheet about the landscape where you live.
Looks like easy laid back living.

Thanks!
Keith

SST40 6000-6500K, huh?

Let me make sure I understand. For $10, I get a low CRI, green-tinted light AND in a cold color temperature too?

Why not spend $15 instead and get a S2+ or T3 with a high CRI emitter (519A for example) with neutral tint and any color temperature you want? Life is too short, folks. Spend the extra $5 and get something you’ll have a pleasant experience with.

Thank you for the review, one suggestion, maybe lower the mic gain a little.

Is that still an issue in my most recent video?

The issue wasn’t the gain, I believe it’s the reverb in that room which I can’t fix for cheap. I still had to increase the levels quite a bit to YouTube’s required level in post.

I normally like 5000k temps too but in such a small light I do appreciate the lumen level without as much heat.

All personal preference isn’t it though. Most like built-in usb c charging which the SC18 has. Killer value imo, I mean, people out there have no issue with Nitecore and Olight using CW emitters, it’s more those that are heavily into flashlights that enjoy high cri and warmer tints. My family and friends wouldn’t have the slightest care in the world for both of those things.

Funtastic, can you check to see what the voltage is when the light goes green and ensure that it stops charging at that point? The description talks about a high voltage protection of 4.35v. The AliExpress listing in the deep description talks about an xhp70b led. I wonder if they were undecided about what they were going to put in there or they’re possibly considering other LEDs. If they did put something at 4000k or less and high cri I’d buy it in a second.

It stops charging. The mention of high voltage protection is for anyone who manages to overcharge a cell in an external charger and inserts it. You often see similar when a brand’s specs mention the working voltage of 2.7 - 4.3v

They often copy text from another listing and forget to change everything around. If the demand is high enough they would use various LEDs, just like the D25 saw the D25S, L, and LR versions.

There is now a listing on ali for the 6000-plus k and a 5000-5300k option. I still have no interest in a SST40.

The joys of knowing how to reflow an emitter. I’ve only just started doing it and it’s such a great thing to learn. Sofirn sent 2x IF19’s and one SFT40 to reflow in. They released with an SST40 and currently the SFT40 is in production.

The IF19 SFT40, with an 18650 tube, outperforms the IF22A

Did they say why they didn’t just put SFT40’s in from the get-go? Thank goodness I’m hearing this from you, I was about to do just that - get an if19 and reflow an sft40 in. Now I don’t have to. I’ll just wait til they do it.

No idea, but the staff from sofirnlight requested SFT40 immediately once they received the stock.

I personally prefer the SST40 for walking with, the SFT40 is quite a tight beam. If you have a look on the Sofirn Flashlight Group on Facebook I’ve posted comparison photos against the IF22A

I just got this light ($14) and for the price it is great. Will be a great gift!

Excellent. I thought so too
