how many lumens does this really put out?

hey guys, not exactly a flashlight here but i am thinking about buying a set of these for my boat. the package says they are rated at 600 lumens but we all know how some manufacturers rate their products. anyway, here is the link. would you be able to tell approximately how many lumens the light puts out with the specs provided? it will be hooked up to the 12v battery system in my boat.

thanks,

monty

Or as a fish attractor ?

I use one of the halogen lights from Fishing Lights Etc for night fishing .

Works great and very bright .

Well it says 80mA at 12 volts on the box, but we have no idea what kind of emitter they are. This link would help if we knew what type of emitter they are.

I have a green XRE on order which I can't wait to play with I mean test.

Six green XREs driven at 1 amp each would be over 1000 lumen, but that's not what we have here just saying.

impossible to tell with the information given.

One things for sure its not 600 Lumens from .08A draw... not even at 12Vin. Thats .96W consumed, equating to 625 Lumens/Watt. No LED (or parallel/series arrangement of LEDs) is that efficient.

Yeah the low current gives it away..if its really driven at 80ma it has no hope in hell at 600 lumens..60 lumens would be closer

I have 4 of these zip tied together w/ a 5lb weight on the bottom.

I've never had much luck attracting fish with them, even through snow covered ice (must be pitch black down there...). They put out quite a bit of green light though. 4 is overkill...

That's what I'm afraid of. I want them to raise fish to the boat primarily for fishing the local lakes on the dock and ocean harbors. Wondering since they are so cheap I could do a swap with some q4's or something.

actually, seems expensive to me, and modding them would double the cost.

A lot has changed in the 10 years since I bought the lights I linked...but at the time I researched them quite a bit. They're cheaper at cabelas (they have several versions on one page)

Obviously, if you're carrying a battery, then the most efficient source of light might be the biggest consideration, and make these unsuitable. I use a big deep cycle so I've never measured current draw.

My personal opinion on green lights for freshwater sport fishing - if they fish are highly active they might help. When dock fishing, it seemed like larger fish (mostly bass) would actually avoid coming near the light, although they may have been drawn to the outer edges of its throw.

But, some folks swear by them, so YMMV

The halogen light I use is supposed to be suspended no more than 2 feet from the surface . Apparently the light is reflected off of the surface back down into the water .

Sorry I couldn't post a link to it , the website has disabled link and or picture grabbing somehow .

you've had luck with it? I wonder if I'm over doing it w/ 4 of them......

Yes , I have . I mainly use them in the early and late parts of the season for crappie fishing . I believe the light wakes them up . At time I have seen a 3 foot bait ball swirling around mine .

Here is some speck pron ( 2# + )
