Faulty TR 002 from DX

I need some help. I bought a TR002 charger from DX.

Before using it, I decided to check it's open voltage (voltage without a battery) and it reads 5.7v!

All other li-ion chargers I've tested show an open voltage no higher than 4.25v (and I understand that 4.25 is the maximum acceptable and will shorten the battery life).

Is there any way to fix or safely use this charger? Even though I'll only charge protected cells, I do not trust their protection....

Thanks in advance!

I have a single channel charger which has a no load voltage of 9 volt. When you insert a battery it goes down to the appropiate voltage, and stops charging at 4,20 volt.

I can not tell if yours is defective, sorry.

Thanks Fran!

I'll test it with a battery... Whenever I have the time to stay on top of it with a multimeter...

I am not saying that your charger is not faulty, I only say that I have a single channel charger which has a no load voltage of about 9volt and never goes above 4,20 when charging Li-ion batts.

Be carefull with it. Keep an eye on it, never leave it un-attended. Check battery voltages while and after charging.

AH: I forgot that I read somewhere that the old Trustfire chargers (older models, not yours) some ones have a no load voltage of 5+ volt while others have 4.25 as no load voltage (only FYI)

my WF-188 has 4.830V open voltage (exactly) regardless if the selector is set to 3.7V or 3.2V (the charger can charge different chemistries). hope this helps

Yes, it is some kind of "no load" "no battery present" voltage. Once the battery is inserted, voltage "should" become to the adecuate value
