Do you like math? Here's a word problem for y'all:
So...say the wife and kids are out for the evening, and you're left home with nothing more than the following:
- Lathe
- Leftover parts from a ceiling fan
- A box of misc drivers/switches/leds
- 1 bottle of Patrón Añejo
Find the sum of the above parts.
Remember to account for variables such as background music (Pink Floyd), pestering by inquisitive dog (basset hound), and attention span ( think goldfish here...). Creativity is inversely proportional B.A.C. after 0.1
This simple equation might help:
Any answers? (I'll know myself in about 3 hours ) Times up.
Answer:
Specs:
- NW Cree xm-l
- Carclo frosted wide TIR lens
- 8x7135 driver
- McClicky forward clicky
- black rubber tailcap
Again, no real thought process or planning went into this and I just used spare parts I had on hand. For example, I wouldn't have used the forward clicky with a 3 mode driver, but C'est la vie...
The body is an aluminum extension tube leftover from an overhead ceiling fan installation. The head is a piece of 3/4" copper plumbing pipe, and the lens retaining ring and tailcap are from leftover barstock. The emitter and driver are mounted in a solid copper pill, again milled from spare barstock (much like the mini mags I do). I'm particularly happy with how the tailcap threading turned out.
Here's a few more pics of the work in progress:

And after assembly and polishing:
I'm really starting to like those little frosted wide TIR lens's. Perfect neutral white flood. They're definately not as efficient at passing light, but with an xm-l at 2.8A, it'll still light up the whole back yard at once
Once again, thanks for reading.
