NOW 70% OFF COUPON!! DIY TorchLite 2x26650 XM-L, SST-90, SST-50 etc Host!

Bitching! Post up how it goes so I can order that driver, it’ll even be good for mt-g2 drive I figure, nice find

Will do. Also, that’s the last component I’m waiting for, the MT-G2 5000K tint.

I emailed cutter yesterday to figure out what’s up. Haven’t heard back.

I don’t think they even shipped yet. If not I’ll upgrade to faster ship service.

RMA reflector arrived in good condition.

intl outdoor 5A driver arrived. I believe I’ll be able to make it fit by not using retaining ring, remove just a bit from the edge of the top board, solder bottom board to pill).

Removed pills from body by spraying with penetrating oil, putting that section of the body on glass stove top set to low for awhile, picking it up with a towel, holding an ice cube to the pill with it upside down, then unscrewing. Once the threads are cleaned and lightly greased it won’t be a problem anymore.

Mine, I hate to say, came apart pretty easy, needed a vice with soft grips and good circlip (snap ring) pliars for the pill but a little lube did the job, just gutted that ramping driver is a wash out, if the UI was stable I’d be hunting an sbt-90 now…… I’m liking the 3.5a driver richies looking at, as I say, I want light and run time out of this, since it weighs about the same as 4 c8’s I want to not be carrying a dead light after an hour…

I think I’m still going to try and fit the ld-29 for now, if it can be fitted, it gives a cheaper option for others, because $15 is pretty steep for a driver it has to be said, although I think its perfect for an mt-g2 in terms of output vs run time, f_ you surefire, we’ll build our own, cheaper, more output and more portable….

This was exactly why I didn’t want to overdo it with a super high power driver. Besides, if I need a light with superior flood than the Torchlight, which is mostly the type of lighting I find useful, I have many other choices in my arsenal.

well, I agree with the runtime assessment, but I think i’ll have to stick to med. and low to get much, because I just stoned the edge of the 5A driver and it fits. I’ll explain in detail with the photos I took once the emitters arrive. But, I will say, if it were ANY taller it wouldn’t work, and when I pot it i’ll have to insulate the coil.

I definitely agree wholeheartedly with the flood assessment though - I’m hoping this will be a much bigger cone of light than an xm-l would be.

sorry about the delay with the emitters. I’ll get an answer from cutter on monday, even if I have to call them.

I was also able to get in on the deal at IOS, so I do have 2 of these guys on the way. I suppose whatever I get my hands on first is what will be installed.

Yep, I’ve got two inbound, though I don’t think either will see this host, other projects would be of greater use to them, this host I feel wants a damm big die shoving in the reflector, a little xm-l looks lost in there…

cutter finally shipped yesterday.

they didn’t even have the courtesy to respond to my emails…I just got a generic ship notice email.

not happy about that - I ordered and paid (nearly $140) a full 18 days before they shipped. If and when that package arrives, it’d better have a 14 Jan. postmark.

That’s a long wait to ship. Obviously they didn’t have them in stock. They really should have given you a heads up on the shipping delay.

That’s why I’m glad some of these newer retailers that have been posting lately on the forum have been stepping up to the plate and responding quickly to our questions and or concerns. Hopefully the order will arrive timely and correct.

well, maybe not in stock, maybe confusion over the holidays, who knows.

their site was totally down for most of all of yesterday, and not just for me.

anyway, thanks for the reminder. time to request fasttech to stock mt-g2!

Hi folks,

I ordered a couple of XM-L2 LED’s that arrived today. I’m debating if I should install one in this light or wait for an mt-g2. I forgot to purchase some artic silver 5 or something similar, so I’ll go and get some tomorrow. The XM-L2 is 5000k, which should be a great tint for me since I’m a 4300k-5000k sort of guy…LOL. Any thoughts?

Hey dthrckt, any news on the status of your Mt-Gt’s?

I didn’t pay for tracking :frowning: Not sure how long it takes from australia, but i’ve been hoping to get them this week.

I’m pretty sure I’ll prefer an mt-g2 in this light but I doubt you’d be disappointed with an xml2…

I got a couple of nw xm-l2’s as well, but I’m sticking with an xm-l in this till I get an mt-g2, I have other plans for the xm-l2’s.

Hoping to get back to this next mod night, at least end up with it usable.

have we found a decent driver for the MT-G2 yet?

I got my head back from EDC - I sent it to him and he had to use a wooden vice and a strap wrench to get the damn thing apart.

Apparently my strap wrenches suck.

Good service from EDC however!

There’s a couple looking promising, one we know for a fact works. Have a read of this though.

Damn, look at the size of that emitter - are we going to have to drill out the reflectors?

I just noticed above that the special IOS driver fits…. might order a couple of those

I’ll try and take a picture of an xm-l in there when I get home, memory says no we won’t

Here’s a quick shot, there should be plenty of room
