Aspherical lens for Jacob A60!!!

Guys, I decided to get myself a Jacob A60 and I found 2 lens that may fit into it.

  1. http://dx.com/p/50mm-18mm-2-80-degree-glass-optics-12834
  2. http://dx.com/p/50mm-optical-glass-lens-for-flashlight-spot-light-44653?rt=1&p=2&m=2&r=3&k=1&t=1&s=12834&u=44653

Can you guys identify which lens is most suitable for it since both of them with 50mm diameter. I don’t know the lens size and reflector size of Jacob A60, so I can’t make a choice. Wish someone have a Jacob can tell me which should I choose. Thank you.

:_( Anyone? Please…

If I am not wrong, it has 55mm lens.

But there does not seem to have 55mm aspheric lens, only 59mm from DX

I measured mine - 49.9mm x 1.9mm. I got a UCL in it now @52.1mm x1.9mm, and it doesn't quite fit - I tried filing it down with some success, but still can't screw the head down all the way, but it's good enough for me.

I know the head diameter is 55mm that stated on DX, but the lens should be smaller

means that the lens is 49.9mm and the head is 55mm? If this is true, I may know which to choose, thank you.

From the pictures on DX, I found that one lens with narrow lips and one with wide lips on the lens.
Can anymore Jacob A60 users give me more suggestion? Thank you.

You might want to try KD since they’re more reliable than DX. They have these three lenses:

50mm, Focal length 35mm http://www.kaidomain.com/product/details.S020638

51mm, Focal length 31mm http://www.kaidomain.com/product/details.S020647

52mm, Focal length 40mm http://www.kaidomain.com/product/details.S020964

Yes - I just measured the Jacob A60 head and I get 55.5 mm on the outside. The lens I had out already because I replaced it - so I just measured it for you, and it measured 49.9 mm. You will have some slop/room to play with, like 1 mm. I replaced lens on about 1/2 dozen assorted lights with UCL's, so kind of learned from that. The thickness though is always a concern as well.

Outside diameter of bezel is 55 mm. Inside diameter of bezel is “about” 47 mm.

BLightSam - you aren't showing measurments in 10ths, so, did you actually measure it with a caliper? I did.

The inner diameter I measured is 46.8, so the 50mm one at KD is spec'ed at 46.7, so shouild fit.

The spec for thickness of the KD 50mm, which I think is this: Epitaxial thickness: 2.9mm, is a concern because that's a full 1mm thicker - May have to remove the o-ring.

GHOST - this a really good idea! I may try one out from KD. Also they seem to have high qual straight lens. this one here would fit the Jacob well, better than the one I got from flashlightlens.com.

Look at the posting times. When I decided to post, yours wan’t there. I would not have posted had I seen your post.

My measurements are done by eyeballing with my old eyes. This is indicated by “about” for inside measurement. The inside measurement by a caliper is 46.8 mm while eyeballed with my old eyes is 47 mm — with a difference of only 0.2 mm. I should say my eyeballing is damn good!

[EDIT]
How do you take apart the head to install new lens? Mine seemed to be made of one solid piece.

Oh - ok no problem BLightSam, sorry bout that. Mine unscrewed near the top pretty easy, it unscrews just below the lines area (lines parallel to the length). If it's difficult and you want to try a wrench, use something really tough under it like a leather glove - I scratched a light up pretty good by using one of those rubber grips for opening jars, the wrench dug right through it.

I have a fluted aspheric lense of 50.5mm diameter that fits fine. The curved portion after the flat is 47.1mm while the inner lip of the bezel is 47.3 so it barely fits.

Reflector and oring in the lense removed allows it to thread on almost al the way. It shows the o-ring on the body portion.

I was trying to unscrew the narrow (thin) bezel at the top. I was skeptical of your mentioned parallel (“vertical”) lines, but grabbed the lines and twisted, and it easily came apart! Thanks!

Why do you want to change the lens? Better throw?

I’m not sure, I’d guess not. It would still be fun to goof around with though.

so the 50mm is the most suitable diameter for the Jacob? Thank you for you all.

50mm would be my suggestion - think I my try the KD one myself as well.

Yes - for throw. Got a XR-E E2 EZ1000 on the way from KD for the Jacob. The more I think about it, not sure if it makes sense for a Jacob - it already throws well and the aspheric will make the beam squared off. Still interesting in what results you would get with it in pure lux/throw measuremenets.
