Host suggestions for the 20mm Noctigon Triple

Many of us are waiting for the triple xpg2 Noctigons to become available, and I was hoping to get some advice on a good host for this mod.

I have found a few potential hosts, but would like to get suggestions from people who actually have good 20mm compatible hosts that they would recommend. Good heatsinking paths, quality anodizing etc.

With the amount of interest expressed in the noctigon triple thread, I am sure that I am not the only one who would benefit from some advice/recommendations.

Some that I have been eyeing up: (please let me know what you think if you have any of these)

Convoy S4 (I like this one and would replace that finned reflector with a chunk of copper)

first and last look to be for 16mm stars, and I am assuming that the s4 would be the same

edit: maybe you are planning on a custom pill though

i should have mentioned that as I will be making a copper heatsink, as long as the inner diameter accepts the 20mm optic and star I will be fine.

You’ll also want to look for something that can take the diameter of the Carclo optics, so 20mm+ diameter. You can use a host with a larger than 20mm diameter front, but if you do, you’ll need something to fill the gap between ~20mm and the inner diameter of your host, and to also hold the position of the Carclo.

And, for ease of modding, a host that can accommodate the shorter front-of-pill to front-of-light that you’ll have when switching from a reflector to a Carclo.

S4 won't work, the 3-up optics are much shorter than the original reflector so the MCPCB would end up exposed and right in the middle of the vent slots in the head.

S2 would be nice, has a removable head so it's relatively easy to work with, and the threads are deep enough to move the pill considerably farther forward. That might have the added benefit of gaining some extra space for longer protected cells, if that's your cup of tea.

S3 starts out with a short reflector so would need fewer changes to the pill location. But, it's a pain to work on since it doesn't have a removable head, tightening the pill against the bezel has to be done through the far end of the battery tube.

I think this is the perfect host for you, and its only $6.87

On a side note, I just ordered this and plan on putting a MT-G2 along with 2x18350. Just need to get the right driver and its game over!!! Just hope I can get 1500-2000 OTF lumens and I will be a happy camper, even if its only for 30-60 second burst!

Any new suggestions for hosting a 20mm triple star? (Looking at triple Rebels for amber/red/orange)
EDIT for fitting guesstimation:
these: Your Choice Of Any 3 Rebel LEDs Soldered To A SinkPAD-II Tri-Star Base
POS 1: Red - 75 lm (LXML-PD01-0040)
POS 2: Red-Orange - 90 lm (LXML-PH01-0050)
POS 3: Amber - 77 lm (LXML-PL01-0040)
with one of these: 20mm Triple Optics For Rebel LEDs

I’m still trying to figure out drivers, not sure whether it makes sense to try to drive these with one cell (they’re about matched for power required so should work in series, I think), or to surrender and go buy a two-cell host and try not to blow myself up some day by forgetting to balance them.

roche f12 has a ledge at the perfect height for a tripple with optic. If i could find a 1830 tube for the roche with the same knurling patturn it would be the only thing i would edc. ill post some pics

does look good — shallow reflector, 11.5mm according to the page, so you don’t need a shim in there? Bezel screws inside the head where those threads are shown I guess.

The height of the reflector does not matter when there is a shelf at the perfect height for a triple

Roche F12 (the one with the shelf) now discontinued at FT.
