As the title says, here’s the build thread for my triple XHP50 light, will update with pics as I go on
The host is a SkyRay 3xT6 (looks like a niwalker 750n1 clone but with triple reflector.) really nice quality, not matte anodising but not that shiny stuff either, and the threads are smooth.
its heavy, good mass in the head, and the body looks hefty.
I am using:
3 XHP50 (not XHP70 due to heat) N2 E3 5500K
copper MCPCB (16mm)
Arctic epoxied down to the pill
LD-2 Driver with moonlight enabled, and the li-ion parts for 2 series 18650’s (them parts are tiny! i lost like 5! so fiddly but i did it
LD-2 is at 6A, again due to heat!
no AR glass yet, but i think i need it, the glass is not great!
Measuring 5.96A at the tailcap

assembled, the bezel is actually quite nice, it has a matte finish, looks like a bead blasted effect
I think the driver is struggling,it did about 7 seconds on highest mode and shut off, I thought I would try and install the NTC sensor, now it does about 11 seconds on highest mode then shuts off, it’s wrapped in thermal tissue and silicone cubes, but still gets really hot
I and two friends had this content://com.sec.android.app.sbrowser/readinglist/0710203457.mhtml. and they had to be rebuilt to work with the xhp 70 and the heat is definitely and issue the xhp50 is a better emitter I feel to get any type of throw out of it and manageable heat dissapation
Yes, what a monster. I wonder if this can be done to one of the TrustFire TR 3T6 that I have. The second one I bought was a very poor performer and I only turned it on once.
I’ve filled the pill and driver with more silicone cubes, it’s gone from about 11 seconds on high to about 20, I took the driver out and tested the run time with the driver out of the pill, it was about 10 seconds and it was HOT! Burn your finger type hot, the driver is getting pushed far too hard but the leds are still quite cool!
Somehow I completely forgot about expander boards from LD-1 era. For LD-2 this should be much simpler, because just mosfet needs to be on mcpcb, and mcpcb for 1w generic leds is great of the shelf solution.Idea is to put mosfet on mcpcb and mount\glue it to flashlight pill or body. This way allowed dissipation would be much higher,as long as that mcpcb is mounted somewhere in flashlight.Driver wouldn't overheat because source of heat is not on driver pcb anymore. I'll do some tests and see how this works.
