The ReyLight Custom-Lumintop Tool Ti is undoubtably the best AAA flashlight of 2016.
Light, strong and beautiful (like The One I gave it to). Nice tint, good intervals and capable of tailstanding.
Though not intended to be used as a survival light: the only minus-point is operating it with gloves on.
Maybe there can be a version with two tailcaps (2nd is protruding rubber, or magnetic) like the regular Tool has.

The Jetbeam Jet-uAAA, looks nice and is easy to use without strobe !! Unbeatable price!

More different colours for the Jet-uAAA

Lumintop IYP365
Perfect pen shape, good CRI with the Nichia 219b, good clip, great mode spacing
2. what are the new features that you are looking forward to see for 2017 aaa flashlight
Titanium, tritium, li-ion compatible and high CRI
1. what’s best or your favorite aaa flashlight in 2016, what’s the advantages and disadvantages about it?
I really like my Jetbeam JET-Mu, it looks great, is pretty easy to turn one one handed, puts out a good amount of light for it’s size, and doesn’t have any silly blinky modes. I only wish it had a reversible pocket clip so I could clip it to the brim of my cap.
2. what are the new features that you are looking forward to see for 2017 aaa flashlight?
Like I said above, I’d like to see reversible pocket clips and I’d also like to see more lights with high CRI leds.
2. what are the new features that you are looking forward to see for 2017 aaa flashlight
I would like more holders, attachments, brackets for smaller lights. They can be used as a universal hat light, headlamp, etc. - so I could attach random, smaller AAA lights to them.

Astrolux A01/Manker E01
Good - low cost, firefly mode, high-CRI emitter, fits on key chain.
Bad - twisty
2. what are the new features that you are looking forward to see for 2017 aaa flashlight
- High CRI emitter (choice of warm, neutral, and cool - e.g 3000k, 4500, 5700k Nichia 219C)
1) The Lumintop Tool Ti, Rey version, pro’s: looks fantastic, lightweight and strong, great modes, start in low with no memory, great high CRI led. cons: it is AAA so runtime is lousy, driver is inefficient: high mode can be higher, low modes can have longer runtime.
2) a bit smaller than the Tool should be doable, but a switch is a must! no twisty. A 3500K 92 CRI Nichia 219C led would be perfect (for me that is). Build a high quality boost driver for AAA with current controlled modes (instead of PWM-ed modes) and good user interface, this is the biggest challenge for budget flashlight builders and it would be a first!
1 - My favorite AAA flashlight in 2016 is the small Convoy one AAA battery flashlight. It is a simple, small, robust, flashlight. Switchy, not clicky, so no risk of accidental activation. It lives in my pocket, so is always there when I need it.
2 - I would like a more neutral tint.
