Guess I misread that then, I haven’t been on the forum for a while till yesterday.
I thought I read two version were being produced, one with XP-L HI and one with LH351D.
Maybe I dreamed about it and thought it was real the next day…
I just checked back through the thread, and know of no significant updates on emitters past this post:
Recap for anyone who needs the background:
The FW3A team created an emitter choice poll
The 1st and 2nd place choices were XP-L HI 3D (~4875K) and LH351D 4000K 90CRI respectively
Toykeeper forwarded the results to Lumintop as a recommendation
Hopefully buyers will be given a choice of either, but Lumintop ultimately has the final decision
As an additional note, the plan is for this light to use a standard Carclo triple optic, and presumable a fairly standard MCPCB. It should be possible for picky users with the appropriate skills to mod their lights.
As the poll wasn’t closed on the site when recommendations were sent to Lumintop, people have voted since. At the time the recommendations were sent, XP-L HI led LH351D. Now LH351D leads by 6 votes. They were within a few votes of each other most of the time.
Currently, LH351D beats 219C by 390:171, and XP-L HI beats 219C by 392:223. Both XP-G series options did poorly the whole time. Those patterns were also consistent for most of the time the poll site has been up. It would have been fun if the SST-20-WxH (95 CRI, throwy) could have been an option, but I think BLF became aware of it too late for inclusion. KD sells them on a compatible triple board for $7, and that’s an easy swap for this light.
I think when time to actually order the FW3A finally comes, I’m probably going to order the SST-20 triple at the same time, so when they arrive, I can try both stock and modded and decide which I like better. That price is too good not to satisfy my curiosity.
Instead of relying on a poll from folks never had the light in the hands I trust Toykeepers preference for the HI LEDs.
It would be nice to see / hear sth. from the 3th prototype.
It would be nice to to know the leds Lumintop will offer. Is there a decision for the optic?
It would be nice to know how we order and how long we can order.
I am on the list for several lights and it would be nice to order only one first and if I like it the rest.
IIRC, if you decided you want more throw, you can simply polish the optic and make it clear.
I see a few different ways that it can be purchased through. One would be directly from Lumintops website like they’re doing with the current GT70 or possibly through Neal’s deals website or maybe even through Banggood. This has yet to be announced yet, because something could happen and force a change. You just have to be prepared for anything.
Or you can wait until after the Group Buy and purchase from a regular store.
I’ve got to point out that not only is there pages and pages worth of information and debate supporting each LED choice, plenty of information exists elsewhere as to how each performs in other lights, and I even filmed a simple video illustrating how a light very similar to one of the options would look in real world use cases. TK does not have the same wants as everyone else, being as not everyone’s vision, use case, and even personal preference is the same, and so you have to make up your own mind. Finally. the poll results have already been sent, and it’s out of our hands. If we were going to reopen the issue, it’d involve different candidate leds by now anyway, and it may well be that a completely different led would win. However, it’s a closed issue until the next group buy, as far as I can see, and (I suppose, being as I have no private knowledge of this) unless lumintop says there is some problem with producing both co-winners and specifically asks us again.
And while we all realize it is a preference that we each have individually. I too am looking forward to that beautiful beam……
