Using a Lux Meter

I'm trying to figure out how to get correct readings from my lux meter. I placed the sensor up on a pedestal 3 feet from an off-white ceiling. I used "X1" on the "Range" selector and individually turned each light on high mode and placed it near the sensor so the light from the ceiling would bounce back to the sensor. If the light was powerful, such as the DRY on Turbo, I'd allow the power output of the light to settle down until the readout would basically stay at whatever was reading at that second. I'd record the reading and move onto the next light.
Looking at a few of the lights I just tested, can anyone tell if I'm close to capturing somewhat accurate lux readings? Thank you.
