18650 Bikelight/EDC

OK, yes, I’m posting a lot of stuff, but I’m a newbie, and newbles ask questions, right?

I’m looking to buy a compact 18650-type light like a Ultrafire 2100, V6-T60, Fandy HD2011, UF H6, that kind of stuff. Throw is preferable to flood. I know these are flood kings, but within this catagory, the more throwy lights are preferable (like ones with SMO reflectors). Thanks!

I think the Xtar BK10 is an underestimated candidate for bike lights. I really like the UI , 60 lumens for low mode which is perfect for biking in traffic and 450 lumens on high when you’re on the trails alone.

Xin TD V3

The Shining Beam Blaze is still on clearance for $29. http://www.shiningbeam.com/servlet/the-151/ShiningBeam-Blaze-XM-dsh-L-T6/Detail

This was $60 so it is a budget light but built like a mid range light. I got one and for $30, it is a no brainer. Ships from US so you will have it fast and from a company with a great rep. Thinking about getting another because it is such a deal at $30.

Uh, thanks guys but I’m also using this as a EDC, so a C8 is not gonna work. :frowning:

You might consider the DX UltraFire V6-T60

Or if you prefer to build your own you could try this with an XPG, which gives a narrower beam - but it does need a 14 mm LED though

With the lights you mentioned you will not get that much throw, you need to get a light a XPG emitter or the newer XP-G2 version.

Just to add a question to this thread as i’m also looking for a light for biking.

How many lumens are needed for pitch dark trails to safely light it up? Will a 350-400 lumen xp-g P60 do it?

Cheers
Matt

I ordered both lately, I think these are enough for biking (or MTB)

Thanks for the links. I was thinking something with an XM-L might be better.
The route we cycle most days is 20km. Its about 50% on road, and 50% off road, a couple of km is a cliff top trail where your only a foot or 2 away from the edge at times, so we need to see properly. I’ve never cycled the route in the dark before, but will do this winter if i get some lights sorted.

Matt

You are welcome

Beamshots of xintd c8 v3:

I loved the beamshots of Ultrafire 502B (very small flashlight easy to carry) from Manafont

These beamshots for comparison with other flashlights made me order one each of them

I was going to suggest the UF-980L, as it’s smaller than a C8.
But after taking it out and blinding the local possums, I think you don’t need that much throw. :cowboy_hat_face:

How about a Sipik SK73 ?
18650 XM-L, zoomie.
I have 2 from Manafont, and am impressed.
Small enough for EDC.

Great beamshots. I can see whay you bought them

Cheers
Matt

Nice looking light, and cheap too

In fact I’m convinced that the SK73 is the light for biking.

$22 for TWO.
Focus one as a thrower and one as a flooder.

Run ’em on high till they smell funny, then stop for a rest.
Once the lights have recovered, you’re on your way again !

If you cycle fast enough will they stay cool :stuck_out_tongue:

Or ride in the rain.
Actually, Ireland… pretty hard not to ?

What sort of time do you get out of them Suncoaster?
(Batterywise)

 Yeah, it rains a lot here.
