Yesterday my ordered Convoy C8 host from fasttech came in along with a few other bits and pieces to make a lot of light:)
Unfortunately a few things don’t fit as expected…

Unfortunately the threads on the pill don’t match te threads on the head… Does anyone know of a copper pill that has threads that do fit this head?
To get the right voltage to drive the XHP70 I also ordered this extension tube: https://www.fasttech.com/products/1575200
Just as with the pill, the threads don’t match… Does anyone know of an extension tube that does fit?
I’ve ordered a nanjg 105c driver (https://www.fasttech.com/products/1122302) and dit the zener mod, to test the light I put it together and it works:) (tested with 2x 16340 batteries to get the right voltage since the extension tube doesn’t fit… I don’t know if these are able to deliver the current needed so no extensive testing until I can power it from 2x 18650)
Overall output is less then expected so I’ve ordered some additional 7135’s to bump it up a bit.
I also think I can get the light image (how do you call that?) a bit better by modifying the reflector. It now has a dark spot in the middle with a bright ring around it.
Are there any other things I can do to improve this light? (while waiting for parts) like braided springs, better switch, other driver or other firmware flash? (now have 5, 30, 100%. Heard a beep the first time I turned it on but not anymore now… If I’ll hear it again is the solution to flash it with higher frequency pwm firmware?)
ps. I could post pic’s if anyone wants to see but it’s not very exciting, just a C8 with a driver and a bigger led than it was designed for xD
Convoy C8 might be a bit different to typical “no-name” C8. Most probably extension tube works well with “no-name” C8.
I have some brass pills (same as yours), and those fit well to my Uniquefire C108, Uniquefire UF-T20, and to one of my “no-name” C8.
However I guess this pill is not much better (or even worse) than the stock convoy pill (unless you want to solder mcpcb to it).
And I also have doubts 7135s would work well at 8.4V (at least as per specification).
Probably it would be good idea to buy some other C8 host for your project:
Thank you very much, I’ve ordered one of the ultrafire lights. I’ll solder the mcpcb to the copper pill (glad I didn’t do this before I figured out it didn’t fit)
I’ll probably put one of the XM-L’s I’ll get out of my SRK (1st mod victim) in the Convoy then with 1x 18650.
I have ordered some PCB’s for DD drivers on OSHPark, but that’ll probably take a while to get here (and for me to figure out what components I need to order)
This is my first C8 (not counting the one I bought on 11.11 sale and didn’t get) so I’m not sure how to judge quality. It’s as nice as my other UltraFire light that looks the same but it but has a 55mm head. Knurling is nice and has a black satin finish. I think it will make a nice XHP sleeper with some copper shims under the MCPCB and a CN10861_IRIS reflector.
The driver doesn’t have a spring and protected cells wont fit. So what driver you are going to use shouldn’t use a spring and doing away with that metal plunger over the rear spring should give you more room.
The only thing I wish was that the extension was knurled instead of smooth.
I got a couple of $7 UltraFire C8’s coming to use as glove box lights. I’ll let you know how those are. They aren’t going to be Convoy quality but are cheaper than a host.
Thank you for your help, I’ve found a single 2x 18650 tube which may fit the Convoy C8, the seller will measure the thread distance for me, I’ll post here when it should fit.
I’ve asked Fasttech which of their C8 flashlights fits the C8 extension and got the following answer:
The single 2x18650 tube probably doesn;t fit the C8 (but the seller was unable to measure the thread distance, so I do not know for sure)
I’ve ordered, received and modded the one from Tmart.
It has a FET driver (17mm & 20/26/27mm single-sided DD/FET driver release: A17DD-SO8 / A20DD-SO8 / etc) and a XHP-70 LED.
the sinkpad required a bit of filing to make it fit, both because it was too big to fit in the pill and because it was covering the holes for the wires.
It is working now but I am not totally satisfied. I’ve ordered a milli-ohm meter (Half Ohm - milliohm adapter - Projects of Jaanus Kalde) and am planning to reduce resistance as much as possible.
I also have to find a way to secure the star to the pill(is now pushed in by the reflector) either by screws or I have to order some heat conducting adhesive (any ideas on this?).
Lol sounds like a typical Ultrafire C8. My single tube UF C8 pill is garbage too and I had to hone out the pill and file on the MCPCB to get a decent fit + the reflector holds the MCPCB down. I personally think that’s sloppy and why I am not using the UF c8 brand for a xhp build. It’s too bad Convoy hasn’t came out with some extension tubes for the c8,m1,m2
