4 emitters tested: Cree XP-E2, JR 3535, small die Nichia 219B, Luxeon Rebel lime colour

great work as always djozz. i was just wondering about benefits on dedoming, and i think u should see an increase in throw with an successful dedoming

When I accidentally flicked a dome off, I’d probably gotten the whole little square board quite warm while trying to solder wires to it.
Not enough to change color or look burned but odds are the dome was thoroughly warmed before I knocked it off.

(I was putting the little 12mm square Luxeonstar boards into #3 zoomies and SK68s, likely with very little heat being conducted away, when I did that)

Great topic.

No wonder why Nichia is the leading led producer from the beginning

Nicha has one big issue here in EU, considering price vs industrual quantity: its price, price vs quality/quantity needed and price/actual working conditions , which in real life aplication never ever passes 1 amp, even 700ma( when talking about that kind of emitters 3-5w)

XTE is better than XPE2 btw , and at lower price atm too

I never tested XT-E's..

True, but it worths mentioning as its a very good emitter for general lighting, and considering the fact that it can be found extremely cheap in EU( cause we have 2 Cree fabs in Europe) its even better
For bigger quantities( 1000+ ) the XPE2 and XTE price is virtualy the same

In the flashlight arean it wont be good…cant be dedomed properly

For me, 219`s ultimate advantage is the fact that its the only emitter that i have seen and tested with a real R9( CRI) over 80…yet, its price usualy prevent us to use it

The colourful Rayus uses a blue XT-E, but XT-E's are not much used in flashlights, even not in the cheap chinese flashlights.

I presume that for the colour dies, Cree (and for that matter Philips, or Osram) uses the same die for the different packages, differences being not so much determined by the package but that newer leds have updated dies.

How does one distinguish between a small and a large die Nichia 219B?, in listings and also when I have my hands on it. Does the large one handle similar currents to an XM-L?
