Hi, after I posted that the light with glued thread is not too hard to open I got a tip that chadvone had a tube laying around that fits, he said its most likely a BLF A6 18350 tube so I ordered it, P.S. BUT I received the S1 tube for the his mod. So watch out that you dont get the wrong delivered the S1 tube is 37mm long and threads are 1mm longer as well But there are some minor differences to make the tube fit to the Skilhunt perfectly. The result is a very light but powerful headlamp. …

Ok, it is not my convoy light, but that was with a reason, i was afraid that i might destroy it. so after reading all this i thought, Lets do it! I disassembled some unbranded cree Q5 led light and put it in the oven @275 deg. C. For approx 30 minutes Look at the result! Beautiful! Nice gold/copper color. Assembling went ok, everything went smooth, until i tried to remove the batteries… Ahh, the horror! Lucky me, that i did not try out my convoy! What did i do wrong? I forgot to lubricate …

Ever had a flashlight lens spontaneously break?

Pics below, its hard to see in the photo but the lens cracked while in the holster and not dropped. Along the edge is broken about 1/3 way around (but hard to see) in addition to the center crack shown. Anyone else have this happen? [image] [image]

I love threads like this, which is in the manner of my recent 500 post giveaway. I love seeing mods that other people love.

So, without further ado, I present my recent Convoy S2+ mod. I got it for a song. At $6, on sale and after points, I just couldn’t pass up a Convoy for that price. But I didn’t like the body color, didn’t like the tint, and wasn’t a fan of the driver. So I embarked on my first stripping experience. And then wet sanded it and polished it. And shaved the dome in hopes of warming up the tint… I usually gas dedome, but felt like switching it up. And then flashed some custom firmware. And topped it all off with an illuminated tailcap, white to match the polished aluminum body. I still need to take post-tailcap pics. The end result is an entirely different light from the original.

The standard S2+ triple Nichia mod, with Hoop’s heat sink, and Richard’s dd driver. Changed the host to a grey S2+ and baked the black one.

Convoy S3 triple won't turn on...

I’ll post a mod I did recently because it’s a good example of how this hobby has progressed for me. Seeing the work done by the community, realizing what mods are possible to improve my lights, then learning the skills to do them. All made possible by this community of modders.

I put an e-switch in the tail cap of a light so I could get just the right UI.

I have been playing with Toykeeper’s ramping FW on my e-switch lights and really like the features, so I’ve been thinking of ways to convert my rear clicky switch lights to e-switch. There are generally two ways to do this. You can keep the driver at the head and just route the wires for the e-switch back to the tailcap, but this requires some fancy contact engineering to be able to make and break an additional connection when you replace the battery. Not a big upgrade but the results were impressive for such a cheap torch.

From Dx which eventually landed after a bit of waiting, I swapped the FET for one from MTN which basically doubled its output then I removed the MCPCB and de-domed all the LED’s in one go which improved the throw a lot and warmed up the cool LED’s

Only downside is the driver which would be nice to replace it only as bright or very bright as modes at a guess 4000 lumens on full and 2000 on low, it’s low is now better than before had as it’s max. Also low has audible whine so it’s always used on full now.

I am not a huge modder and this is the first time I am sharing this mini mod. Built a 219C triple S2+ and used coins/solder to create the spacer. By far the most time consuming mod I have done to date.
