Came across this old thread because my brother was looking at this recently on amazon and asked me what my thoughts were on it. (told him to run in a different direction)
I’ll admit the looks of it drew me in, I like aggressive knurling.
You were right to suggest he look elsewhere. The machining was bad and the anodizing was worse. I took one for the team there but I did get a refund. The regular old SK68 clones are actually a little better in quality if you get them from a decent source. It had potential just based on looks but there was no quality there. It looks better in pictures than it feels in your hand. Pretty much junk.
Really? I love my light. They just released some new color options and I got some for my kids and friends.
It worked really well for my needs: camping, around the house, car, hiking, nothing too extreme. It is plenty bright, the price is excellent and the design is fantastic. Just providing a balance of opinion. Not a bad light at all.
Welcome aboard friend. I would agree that it is all of the things you mentioned. Had this been my first dive into the world of Cree emitter flashlights I would have said the exact same. Having been around the flashlight block a time or two… hundred it just changes the perspective on what I consider quality-per-dollar. My first dive in was a $4 SK-68 clone and I fell in love. That light matches the J5 on all performance levels for 1/4 to 1/3 the price depending where you are shopping. I didn’t say anything negative until 3 weeks of no response from the manufacturer. It’s a shadow company. It only gets better from here on up. That said, all opinions are welcome here.
