I was semi-curious about this light, but after reading that the tail switch won’t work if you use your own 21700s…nah. I frown upon proprietary batteries like this needs to fully function (and I already own the L7, which is fantastic.)
No, it’s definitely not. However, irregardless of the graph, and the fact it doesn’t meet the advertised specs, in real-world use this is a good flashlight. Bright, throws great relatively lightweight and easy to handle. As we all know, specs don’t tell the whole story.
Yea the L7 seeems to be superior in every way besides size. Love my L7!
Honestly, I find the size superior as well. People without giant hands might disagree, but I love the 2 X 26800 form factor.
The L7 has so many features going for it…
The girth is perfect for my hand, the knurling is probably my favorite on any light I’ve ever had my hands on and the balance is exactly where it should be to keep the light as nimble in the hand as possible - even with 26800s.
I prefer the P20’s weight balance for a bonk light, and I’m also more convinced the P20 would definitely still work after bonking something with it. I’ve also tested both and the P20 does perform better, although obviously runtimes are shorter than a 2x26800 L7.
Lol - I can’t say, myself… I only have the L7.
And any time I’ve had to bonk anything or anyone I just use these bear paws I was born with!
I generally agree that I like how it feels to carry, but if you were juggling some dog leashes and holding a child’s hand you might prefer the thinner one was my thought process.
I compared this to a 2D Maglite and a Wurkkos DL70. No comparison. The P20 is light-years ahead (handling-wise). I can actually pocket carry the P20 in a back pocket or even side pocket (if not wearing pajama pants). Only advantage the L7 has is longer runtimes and maybe a bit more up top output. The P20 is better regulated for temps and output. Plus Acebeam quality and reliability.
I give the P20 a passing grade here nonetheless. The fact you can even use other batteries is a huge plus. Can’t say that for Olight or others. All the UI functions are accessible from the side switch anyway and te rear switch is for two handed use. I used the side switch way more than the tail.
Every single light I own allows you to use your own cells. It’s not a particularly rare or impressive feature.
People keep saying the P20 outperforms the L7, but I guess that depends on what you are looking for. I think in real world scenarios the L7 can sustain higher outputs for longer based on several separate sources. I live in a northern state and I’ve always found it to be a good performer. Maybe it is less exciting if you live in a warmer place.
