AliExpress

Try Entropay or mywirecard.
The Canadian big banks are typically quite modern, none of them offer online cards/virtual cards for online shopping? Not even TD bank or RBC?

My experience with Ali’s dispute system was fine all 3 times I’ve used it. And I must say that my disputes were not for fraud goods (I’m trying to be careful where I shop from), but slightly different description, simple mistakes (wrong color) and small damage due to bad package.

BTW, is it sure that his Clear C8 has the 7135*8 driver?
It’s not written in the specs.

No, not the big banks. But I’ll look into your other suggestions, thanks.

The only drawback of these virtual cards is the relatively high usage fee (they all charge 3-5% either as a top-up fee or in other forms. Also extra features like charge-backs or similar can be pricey for these services). But they are perfect for small and quick purchases on AliExpress for electronic parts, switches, LEDs, … - I don’t mind paying a few pennies extra for the upside of not having to disclose my real credit card details.

If you are actually buying something expensive though I wouldn’t do that without Paypal/credit card protection.

I use RBC and yes they gave me a virtual visa which cannot be used in stores but works for online purchases.
Not sure if that’s what he meant by “virtual card” but it’s not disposable or anything like that, and doesn’t have balance or interest, it just pulls directly from the linked bank account same as a debit card.

That would be an online/virtual card, yeah. But if the card number remains valid for a long time or the duration of the main account/card you’d still carry a fraud risk if someone gets/hacks/steals the number/CCV.

IIRC, it’s not really a virtual card, because you keep the same number all the time. So, if your card is stolen, you still have to replace it. It’s really a reloadable credit/debit card. The only advantage it has is that most of the time you can leave $0 on it, so if it’s stolen they can’t buy anything with it (until the next time you put some money on it).

I was looking at something like that, but my bank seems to charge a monthly fee just to have the card. I didn’t think it was worth it.

Can you post the product page URL? I would like to see that before passing judgement, since were disputing how the product was presented and advertised. Since the C8 is an open source design, manufactured by probably dozens of OEMs.

Was it this one? It says 10x7135 though. But if you did not get the right driver then surely you have a valid complaint.

Oh, well that’s not what I have from RBC, because the card doesn’t have $0 balance, it just is a “pass-through” to my bank account…
If someone stole it they would still be able to purchase using the money in my checking account.
Basically like a way of using a debit card for online purchases.

Not the same as a reloadable or disposable credit card like the ones you buy at a supermarket.

I bought three products with a claim of 2000 lumen. I knew that 2000 was a false claim, yes.
The description said 7135*8 driver. So at 3 Amps, the light should be well over 1,000 lumen. What I received were 3 lights with generic drivers measuring 2,7 A, Compared to other lights running the same LED and tint with known 1000 lumen output, the lights I received from AliExpress were noticeably dimmer, roughly 25% less light.
My complaint basis is simple, the lights I received were less than half the claimed ouput, so NO i don’t believe I share blame here.

Those 1000 Lumens are from the LED, you lose Lumens in the optics, so the ‘out the front’ Lumens are usually around 800.
But correct me if i’m wrong.

Yeah if you got anything except an 8-7135 driver then surely thats no good.

Authenticity of the emitter is another area they could be false-advertising. If you could prove with pics that its a latticebright and not a cree (if that truly is the case). That could also explain the lower than expected output.

But I would think the wrong driver should be enough to file the dispute.

I think you should also post this in the dealer experience thread, along with the product URL so others don’t make the same mistake.

Wow, that sounds pretty awful. :open_mouth: I’ll definitely give that card a skip.

You’re right.
Cheap reflector probably has about 70% reflectance or less, and the crappy plastic lens probably takes away 5% or even more.
Good quality flashlights take their lux readings directly from the flashlight, not “this is the number it says on the cree website”

Correct, thats why I was asking for the specific item URL link from the OP. If they don’t specify a flux BIN than it could be any XP-L, that combined with optical losses could easily result in an under performing light… even if it has a legit 8-7135 driver. Aren’t the 7135 driver ICs BIN-ed for current and voltage output?

Sorry to bring this thread back from dead, thought its better than making new one for aliexpress.

Have one question, I need to upload video wich aliexpress seller will be able to see, (youtube is blocked in China), video is about 150Mb.?
Any suggestions how to do this, which video platform to use preferably without registration!
Thanks

I like aliexpress personally.
I agree that they or ‘johnny chen’ should be trying to make you happy.
But I would also never expect 2000 lumens from any $20 light.
Especially running on one cell.

There are other problems too.

They might say ‘you used a weak battery’.

Or ‘we didn’t really specify how we measured lumens’

Or worse ‘what makes you a lumen tester?’
After all that is actually hard to do.

I’ve bought at least 40 things on aliexpress, and I am almost never dissatisfied.
Mostly I am getting something really cheap that does one thing and nothing else, or has no features, or is cheaply made but i don;t expect to use it a lot.

I complained once or twice and they refunded, saying just keep the item.
But that is probably up to the vendor, ie this johnny chen.

wle

I suppose you could try asking the seller first. One time a seller told me to send videos to her email address. I had to compress the video down to 25MB though.

Zombie thread !

I don't know were to post my question so i try this general AE :

Simon from Convoy Store told me to " submit your order but don't complete the payment, then close the payment page and leave me a message ,i will adjust the amount"

The problem is that i never found a way to submit my order without paying !

Either i have items in my shopping cart but do not click on the "buy" button and the seller doesn't seem to see them or i click the buy button and have to pay immediatly for the order to be submited.

I bet i am missing something and wonder how do YOU do because that's the only way to deal with the BLF discount or combined shipping (wich Convoy store doesn't do automaticaly like many other shops do)
