ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Wow, I didn’t checked the shipping cost…only 30$, what a bargain… :Sp
Thank you FT, but not this time…I hate ordering from GB as well but if it’s the only choice well…will try

It’s a pleasant folder for the money. The chekering of the G10 is quite agressive so you don’t have to worry about having a firm grip on it. I chose the part serrated version :

Is the flipping of the blade smooth? No lateral or vertical play?

I have one of those. Mine weights 94 g and it comes with a slightly thinner blade than the real one (2.9mm vs. 3mm).

It’s smooth without any blade play.

I haven’t had many (any?) budget knives without blade play. It’s been a while though. Maybe they have gotten better. You guys are going to make me find out.

Hey beamO: where did ya find the spyderco knock off for $14.79?

Got a link?

The one you ordered is still in the shop, now in another offering

Thank you very much for explanations about compressor lock.
So, another question: if you have/can comparated them, which lock is better from a Spyderco clone (with compressor lock) and a “original” SpyderGanzo with linear lock?

In my opinion, the axis lock wins over the compression lock. In my use they are equal in safety, and both are fun to play with (flip-in-flip-out-…)
The ambidextrous axis lock makes the SpyderGanzo a winner
I can easily deploy the blade with left or right hand when needed
I also like the symmetry of it as there is no front/back side

Still waiting for the G731 Tri-Ad Lock (as if that will ever happen)
That lock is solid

In short the SpyderGanzo has the better lock imo

My order of preference of the three is
1)compression
2)axis
3)liner.
It’s really just a matter of preference though. A good liner lock is plenty strong enough, but axis and compression are stronger. You have to do some really heavy work to compromise a well built example of any of them. It’s more about what you like opening and closing.

The safest lock system in the world is the tri-ad-lock but it is not enough to copy it, the materials used are very important too.
About lock systems… really it is almost more important the quality with the lock system is done than the type of system. But each system have some individual characteristics. I like the axis and the framelock but i have seen ALL types of lock system fail but not the triadlock on tests.

Materials, tolerances and execution.

Yes that is.

$14.97 was the price on the 11.11 sale that ended at midnight on 11/11. Now its back up to regular price of $19.99, still a good deal IMO, I was planning on paying that anyhow then I saw the sale. (I selected the ePacket shipping option (5-15 days) for an additional $1.16 (click the shipping & payment button)

Here’s the link to the one I ordered in my post:

Its the Endura 4 FFG, part of Spyderco’s “affordable” line that includes it’s little brother the Delica 4. The real one is around $100-$110 for the ZDP-189 steel version like this clone, or $65-$75 for the VG10 steel (made in Seki City) version.

From what I’ve read the Endura is very popular for SD carry, they even make a blunt training version. I’m actually planning on getting the real one in VG10 but I wanted to try a “sample” first so I ordered the clone. If I really like it I’ll get the real one and keep the clone for a beater version.

Also the C81 Paramilitary 2 (S30V) clone I ordered on the 11.11 sale for $14.99 only went up $1, so right now it’s only $15.99 also a great deal as its the better clone with compression lock (I also selected the ePacket shipping option (5-15 days) for an additional .77 cents (click the drop down shipping options menu) Here’s a link to that one:

I like the compression lock more than the liner locks. Also the clone’s blade has the jimping on the thumb ramp and choil. I don’t have the Ganzo but I have the clone and its really nice, I really like the jimping.

Thanks for pointing that out, I see they’re about $10 more now, shortly after I got it the store went “empty” as there were no merchandise listings for months. I got both the black one and the green one.

The black one is really special, its even nicer than in the photos, I don’t see any other seller that has it either, I would buy it again even for the $10 more, highly recommended!

Awesome. I’m hoping those aren’t rivets and there are screw heads on the other side, is yours?

I have to say out of all the locking systems I have, for ease of use I really like the SOG Arc-Lock, it is by far the easiest and smoothest to unlock.

Another locking system that hasn’t been mentioned is the Button lock. I’m seriously considering this CRKT Tighe Rade ($37) I really like the blade style and the machining on the aluminum scales, it has a flipper, the IKBS™ ball bearing pivot and button lock:

I’m pretty sure I had a (non auto) button lock before and liked it, not sure what it was or if I still even have it somewhere.

Flipper + Ball Bearings = FAST! I tried out the CRKT Fossil (flipper & IKBS) at the store the other day and it opens as fast as my assisted Kershaws.

So I “had to” buy a black one
The bright colored one’s looks great too … I hope the images tell the truth about the given quality
