ALL THINGS BUDGET KNIVES

Nice work bdpf79!

Thanks for the links to the tutorials as well….

@bdpf79
Awesome idea for that Sanrenmu 7023 LUC-SA.
I’ve got the same with that stupid engraving, as if nobody can see it’s a stainless steel folding knife.
I just need to make the time to mod it like you did.
Nice work!

The review of the Y-Start LK5008: http://chinese-knives.blogspot.com.es/2016/05/review-y-start-lk5008.html

Awsome knife.

I have all the others but that Y-Start. I'm really diggin it, does it come with bronze washers or plastic?

Ordered from FT, I never pass on a 4mm thick blade......never. Never never never!

Wait a minute, I don't think I have that specific Enlan 2nd from the top. What model is it ?

That’s only the most well known Enlan LOL! and in my opinion their best bang for the buck. It’s the EL-01.

Here’s a post that I wrote back in March, Discount codes from Gearbest, I just tried them and the codes are still valid.

It has not washers, it has a ball bearing system.
The second is the enlan el01, one of the best for the money.
Th lk5008 is impressive, look at that size and design!.

Ball bearings on a budget knife?! Incredible!! I ordered it!

Where can I get the EL01? FT out....

In a lot of shops: fasttech, everybuying, gearbest, exduct…

Are you sure about that steel?

Here’s a question and the dealer’s answer posted on Amazon:

What type of steel is the blade and can you be more specific about the handle material other than “resin”?

Answer: hello, the material of the blade is 8Cr13MoV,equal to the 440A,and the handle material is Polyethylene.

“Knife reviews: http://chinese-knives.blogspot.com/”

Thanks for the review Xatu ! Very Nice. Great knife. I can’t put mine down !! It’s already up in price since introduction. Glad I pulled the trigger when I did. :+1:

Well of course I didn’t have a test about the blade material of the SRM 7084, but everywhere I find it, like GB, FT, some Ebay sellers, etc., it’s offered with the 12C27 steel. And Sanrenmu is a manufacturer that is known for it’s correct informations.

You may be right but I am dubious that it is Sandvik.

The blade doesn’t identify the steel and I think it might if it were one of the better quality steels such as Sandvik.

I also have my doubts about the steel, might be, might not
At least, it’s a good sign that all the retailers list it as Sandvik.
I remember looking at the 7076 LUX and Exduct lists it as 12C27, GB doesn’t list the steel type and FT lists as 8CR14MOV, no consistency there so who knows?
But in all honesty, I don’t think that it matters and in this price range, 8CR14 or 13MOV is completely acceptable . If it’s 12C27, then it’s a bonus but I wouldn’t buy it solely based on this description.

Hey xatu,
just read your nice and well done review of the Y-Start LK5008. Thank’s for that! :+1:
Qverall it comes up with the expected results of being a real good budget knive with decent quality.

But there is one point in your rewiev, that still surprises and disturbs me somehow, which is “opening the smoothness is good, although it’s difficult to open using the ”flipper” without making a shake with the wrist,…“.
Althoug the LK5008 is ”only” featuring a pair of simple roller bearings, which is good to see on the picture of the unassembled LK5008 here, - ” LK5008”:http://www.ebay.de/itm/Y-START-Messer-LK5008G-Taschenmesser-Jagdmesser-Einhandmesser-Flipper-Bearing-/272069368228?hash=item3f589919a4 -, this shouldn’t be the case respectively IMO “normaly” the blade should flipp without any kind of wrist shaking assistence.

It would be interesting to know, if just the example that you got is unfortunately a bit sticky, or if this might be a general issue of the LK5008.

Instead of looking for the 7076 LUX, you should keep your eyes on the 7078 MUX.

I can flip it open without wrist action. But let’s get real. There is no spring assist and there’s 4 inches of blade and you only have a little over a 1/4” of flipper exposed.

So the average guy has to practice to get it open without a slight (and i mean very slight) wrist action.

The blade and it’s tiny roller bearing pivots are as smooth as butter, as are most quality knives with regular washers. It’s not like you have a dolly with 3 inch roller bearings under it and you’re gliding a Chevy engine block across a concrete floor. LOL….I think you are over thinking it. And who wouldn’t, when it is mentioned that it has roller bearings vs washers?

Overall, roller bearing pivots and good bronze washers are equivalent in my opinion. I do not believe one is superior to or outperforms the other. Just different mechanisms doing the same job.

Won’t say that I’m overthinking nor expecting too much of it, but at least I thought and was hoping that the opening mechanism of the LK008 would perform in the same way like for example my Y-Start Hati Clone does (post nr. 1322), having the same type of roller bearings and opens just with a soft finger slide or even a little bit of pressure on top the Flipp.

I don’t know if the Buck Vantage Pro has a type of bronze washers that you might call good, as from 9 out of 10 it opens quite well with the Flipper.
But it’s far away from being as smooth as the Y-Start Hati Clone.

I got them today

I like (and prefer) under 3-inch folders, which is why I was eager to try this.

But the Sanrenmu 7084 Lux is iust a little slippery in my hand. And the thumb-stud is situated so the knife requires you to hold it just-so for opening. I feel like I’m going to cut myself if not careful.

I commend Sanrenmu for making a smaller folder. But, sadly, this one isn’t for me.

You’re too humble. I think they look awesome. “Imperfect” brushwork gives each knife a unique look that is truly one of a kind. Well done. :+1:
