Jesus!! 120bux from 100?? Last I even checked, it was only 50!
I don’t do Amazom video, music, ebooks, whatever, so would only be getting it for shipping, but most of what I ordered came pretty fast anyway, so I’ve got no need for it. Not even at 50, certainly not for 120.
I thought annual membership was still $99 and the monthly membership went up to $12.99? I’ve had it for a couple of years now and it’s paid off for me but to each their own.
Sucks, but I think at 120 we’re still in for Prime. We order from Amazon at least once a week, often more. Plus, as “cable cutters” we watch some Prime Video, mostly several of their original content shows. It does suck though, and I wonder where it ends. I think the first year I signed up for Prime it was something like 75? And that couldn’t have been too many years ago. Won’t be long before its double that initial rate, I’m afraid. Too much further past 120 and they’re gonna have to start sweetening the deal on their end, or I won’t stick around.
I am currently working at an Amazon distribution center on the east coast. Most of the “prime” packages are delivered by drivers who use their own cars, hired by Amazon as independent contractors. I have no idea if “prime” orders are sent via UPS or FedEx in this area, since I barely order anything from them.
Us workers all say Amazon should give prime membership to it’s permanent employees. It could convince someone like me to purchase more. Then again, some of my coworkers give back damn near their whole paycheck to Amazon.com, so they are already addicted.
All mine come via USPS, UPS or the occasional Fedex ground here in southeast PA.
P.S. Hat’s off to you for surviving an Amazon distribution center, have read they are brutal. Must keep you in shape for no extra charge though
Later,
Yes, definitely a lot of walking around the warehouse and handling packages up to 49 lbs (the heavy ones are a small percentage). Although I don’t have a counter, I’m pretty sure I am getting my 10,000 steps haha! I really don’t think I would have survived in a fulfillment center, where they pack the orders. Many times, the FC’s are the ones in the news reporting on the horrid conditions. My shift is actually pretty laid back. The only time we really get stressed is when our truck arrives late. The night and overnight shift handle much more volume than us. The distribution center I am at is in the DC metro area, fwiw.
Here in Australia. they give us nothing under around 2 yrs old. and primarily old obsolete stock.
Absolute garbage.
IF they were to open up there US stocks to us. They would get 45% of Aust viewers on their books. The TV shows here are also complete rubbish apart from maybe 4 or 5.
Reality. Cooking. and apprentice singers have completely taken over the goggle bog programmes. For brain dead viewers only methink’s.
Me. I just pirate movies and go fishing nowadays.
It’s just lucky that Aust TV is free. (No licences required)
Back to torches. at least they have a spark in them
I agree Amazon should give it’s employees prime for free. After all they’re the ones making the hundreds of millions a year possible. Until it becomes fully automated and you have Robots fling it all even unpacking and packing the 18 wheelers. I loaded 2000 lbs sacks and boxes on 18 wheelers and international shipping containers, for a couple years. With technology now a days a automated fork truck I could see. The pallet wrappers are automated. And the sensors could keep it aligned in the truck.
I only say this because workers have to be careful what they demand. Like the fast food workers demanding 15 a hour. Wendy’s started opening fully automated stores in those areas and mc Donald’s. They only need 2 employees to clean the store basically. The machines make all the food. The employees just put the raw food in the machines it wraps and bags it everything. And my area they just cut their staff and put automated ordering machines in. Along with pushing their mobile ordering with great coupons for doing so. They still keep one person taking orders still for now. But it’s a matter of time. And they now bring your food to your table instead of waiting at the counter or calling a number out. And will bring whatever condiments you want as well.
Machines don’t make demands, they don’t call in sick, they don’t need insurance. They don’t need to be paid. And don’t need a 401k retirement plan taking away profits. And they estimated within a year the machines will have paid for themselves and it’s all profit after that. All those people in Washington State and the fight for 15 screwed themselves. I’m sorry but making burgers and fries shouldn’t pay that. Taking bullets for your country doesn’t even pay that. When I joined I made like 1200 a month in 2009 as a e1 Lots of small business closed or cut their staff down in that area. Like the car industry is mostly automated. Everything will slowly go that way. The more people demand from their employers the faster it will happen. I saw a show on the out sourcing call centers to India. They can hire 12 to 20 Indians to run phones and support for the cost of one American it support person. And the internet makes it possible for someone 5000 miles away to trouble shoot your phone and computer. I always mess with them. I say your names not Mike tell me your real name.
Legit sounds scary lol. The terminator working in a factory? Goes to lunch break. I’ll be back! lol
But like us machine also have moving parts that fail and break and circuit boards to fry. I mean when people dirty my clean kitchen i usually blow a fuse
It depends on how much you buy to take advantage of the two day or sometimes one day shipping. I was heavily into doing review for product a few years ago and would get anywhere from 3 to a dozen packages a day. If you want to take advantage of sellers giving spawesome deals in hopes of getting a review check the
You can find deals atleast 50% off up to 90% off. Getting two day shipping and all the movies, music, games, etc is worth the price of subscription. Good luck.
I cancelled my Prime renewal (here ~49€/year in France) this year. Can’t stand amazon anymore, they put too much pressure on their workers, on the third-party sellers, etc… Also the tax “optimization” through legal loopholes.
I don’t mind paying a bit more if the money goes to a smaller (or family) business.
Another problem is a lot of ebay sellers sell products that are dropshipped from amazon.
Lol the machine are much cheaper to fix then dealing with humans. Even if it’s a couple grand to fix it. They’ll make that back in a few hours. And doesn’t have to go into payroll or insurance. Hell one day the machine will have a machine to fix it. These fast food and service industry workers demanding 15 dollar an hour wages are just screwing themselves out of jobs. And forcing smaller retailers ajd mom and pop stores to either take on a bigger role themselves or close. Can’t remember where. But I read a article where dozens of businesses cut their losses and closed because they can’t afford the labor anymore. You could have 2 employees for 15 a hour and now it’s one. You start somewhere and find a better job. This latest generation feels so entitled to everything. I’m entitled to 15 dollars a hour for dropping fries in grease. How dare you pay me 7.50 a hour. I’ll show you.
Another article had people complaining because the companies that still could stay open. Layed off good chunks of their staff.
Hell Ya I make 15 dollars a hour now high fives everyone we did it.
Ya you did it but you don’t work here anymore. Your 15 dollars a hour is somewhere else. And all it will do is make all the goods and services go way up on their prices so it just cancels out in a way.
cost of ‘the labor’ is basically because all wealth in the USA will have been transferred to health care drs, lawyers, and drug companies, in the next 5 years
they will own us
we could all get by on $5 an hour if it were not for the cost of health care and transportation CARS.
