As long as there aren’t any personal threats, attacks, or X-rated profanity, and the subject is appropriate to the forum, then who cares what gets said. If you aren’t interested in a thread, then just don’t look at it.

Exactly. The idea of a forum hoes back to at least the Roman times. Even Paul was allowed to preach Christianity to the pegans in the Rome forum. Anyone can talk in a forum, good ideas will live, and dead ones die. A forum moderate is an oxymoron. Reductive logic says there are two rules, love the forum, love your neighbor.

If you need to hire a lawyer to read the rules, it is no longer a forum.

I suspect cpf was started by a woman in Oregon, probably avid camper, former park service worker - who liked flashlights. Probably, a liberal like her state. Unfortunately, women often like to feel they are right. I had my post deleted and almost banned from when I mentioned the holocene maximum, dansgaard effect, 780 m years ago, on the Cafe. Instant ban stuff. And it shouldn’t be.

Also, the stock and trade of a forum owner is the user base and accompanying brain neurons they bring. Ban them, the forum is poorer for it. . Cpf is dying, yet the ban some of their brightest members. Ego is at the heart of it.

This is another dumb rule: necromancy. Most forum readers stumble on a thread through Google, adding to a thread, respects the hard work of the elders. You, Yoda, should appreciate this. Also, corrections, clarifications to a thread from an outside, usually will take years.

The other thing that peeves me is the hours I waste a month Googling solutions, only to hit thread after thread of people, pompously telling the o.p. to Google the answer. This road blocks future research and devalues the forum from the outside world search engine perspective.
