Are all Convoy flashlights from different sources the same ?

will i be wrong if i say that Fasttech has the largest number of different convoy models or in other words “COMPLETE LINEUP” ?

My guess....

Is that since it's a fairly new player ..and already just a budget light no one feels a great need to clone them.

I also think since no one has ever said a thing negatively about them that leads me to believe they are all from the same source (for now)

I have no idea

They are rebranded generic/OEM lights from several different sources. Most (if not all) were around before the Convoy name showed up.

S3 sold as 'EDC 18650': http://intl-outdoor.com/edc-18650-flashlight-host-p-535.html

S3 sold as 'OEM D7': http://www.fancyflashlights.com/goods.php?id=445

S6 sold as 'D4': http://www.fancyflashlights.com/goods.php?id=359

S6 sold as 'XIAOZHI': http://www.fancyflashlights.com/goods.php?id=551

S6 sold as 'X-Power' (order one and they'll send you a Convoy S6 in a Convoy gift box): http://www.fasttech.com/products/1278500

M1 sold as 'OEM D4 HAIII' (don't ask me why there are two very different lights both given the name 'D4'): http://www.fancyflashlights.com/goods.php?id=420

Generally speaking the biggest differences among Convoy is the internals. For example for our lineup from Simon, we opted for a single mode group 5%, 30%, 100% with mode memory and specified LEDs.

I ended up with an S5 from both Simon and FastTech…there were very slight differences between the two. One had anodized threads between the head and body and one didn’t. There were very small size differences too. I sold one of them and can’t remember which one was sold, but they both worked flawlessly. Amazing quality for the money!

This is what I feared… is the machining and the anodizing is of the same high quality ?
I want to order the convoy C8 from banggood because its the only one with SMO reflector but I’m afraid the quality will be lower than the one I got from Simon.

Why not just order host only? You can then put in a qlite driver and a xm-l2

Because the same flashlight with the LED & driver is usually 1 or 2 dollar more or even the same price than the empty body. :stuck_out_tongue:
I still hesitate to replace the LED with XP-G2 R5 and the matching SMO reflector but I can’t find any beamshots comparing the two LED under the same condition…

well… for some reason my convoy L4 was brighter than the one that I got from Wallbuys :~

The different suppliers are using different LED's and Drivers so Convoy Flashlights from different suppliers are obviously different.

The hosts may be the same, the differences noted in the above replies may be from different production batches.

well, convoy c8 host 10,82$ + qlite 4,19$ + xm-l2 6,90$=~21$, thats 5$ more then the preassembled one, but u have the led on a noctigon and no squeaking driver, which to me is priceless

perhaps useful to bump this

I was — still am — looking for spare pills (with retaining rings) that will fit the Convoy S2 and S2+
and I’d also like to know what other lights (Convoy or other brand) the same pills would fit into.

This thread earlier mentioned several other names under which this kind of light has been sold (which may explain some of the variations).

These are too short for the S2+ but does anyone know if they’d fit an S2 or S6?

Belated update — I got a couple of discounted S2+ lights from I forget, BG or GB, and they came with the driver soldered in place, solder gorped right over the threads that would be used by a retaining ring — which was annoying.

I think because they were offering a wide range of drivers and emitters, and having some third party stick the things together.

Easy enough to warm it up and use a solder sucker to clean the threads out though, the solder had barely stuck on.

I contacted Simon directly and asked to buy half a dozen spare pills for the S2 and S2+ (so I can play with different drivers and emitters and easily swap them out. No problem, he replied within a week or two and I sent PayPal for them. (He’s had his hands full with family, business building move, etc., no worries about response time).

So if you’re looking at a Convoy that some third party has gooped up, you can make it right easily enough.

Thanks for the information, same situation here. Have a couple of S2+ with soldered drivers too and don’t like to solder them in and out - especially since I am currently testing driver firmware in different lights and have to open them often.

I didn’t know that. All of the convoy S-series I have gotten from Simon and Fasttech have had the the 8x7135 qlite drivers soldered in. I have never seen a 3amp qlite that would fit under the retaining ring without modification.

Just got this S2+ from Simon, and the driver is held in with a retaining ring.

Would like to see a picture of the other side of the driver …

Yes 1 sided nanjg/qlite drivers (i.e. with 4 or less 7135 chips) have always fit no problem. It’s the 2 sided ones that didn’t fit.

I’m sorry, I meant Nanjg. Are you sure the 2 sided drivers fit under the retaining ring? Do you have a picture of it under the ring? AFAIK, Simon still uses the 105D soldered to the pill.

Sorry I bumped an old topic. I see some confusion being repeated.
Do a search.

Here is disambiguation in a more recent topic: Driver Prefrence: Q Lite vs. NANJG 105c

Thanks Hank.
