In S42 they used electronic button for UI that is designed for clicky. I partialy solved its biggest problem, for me at least, by using clicky tailcap from A6 with the S42. Now I can easily turn it off from moonlight as well as from anywhere else. And looooong press to OFF is gone, as well as the big drain from from the dragon breath blinking switch now is solved.
It became nice light and much lighter than S41 with its heavy copper head. But I think both are fine for me with nice neutral Nichia high CRI Leds. I like their tints and how floody they both are. Long 18650 body from A6 fits both too.
And if you really hate the S42 UI (I don’t) you can get another driver here Bistro HD OTSM/Narsil drivers
I bought them soon after their release, and now again, last December when I paid $22.95 for S41 and $24.95 for S42 during Black Friday sales.
