Battery questions about 3 AAA's vs one 18500

Use some LifePo4 cells (3.2v) – they’ll get you closer to 6V

I know 4S is short for “4 series”, as in 4SAA. What’s 2P and 1P?

P = parallel. Assuming you have 4, 1.5V, 3Ah capacity cells, you can arrange them in different ways:

So 1S4P is all 4 cells in parallel (1.5v 12Ah capacity).

4S1P is 4 cells in series (6v, 3Ah)

2S2P is two string of cells in series, arranged in parallel. (3V, 6Ah).

Perfect – thanks, GM!

Am I getting this right? The 4S would be 6 volts. (4X1.5 Volts) and 3Ah. If we put two of those strings in parallel (2P) we double the capacity, so 6Ah. 4S2P in the example becomes 6V 6Ah. Probably just a typo, but I wanted to make sure I have it right.

Whoops, good spot. I’ve edited my post. I also typo’d the capacity, maybe there really big AA cells…!

I wanted to keep all examples the same number of cells, as all the arrangements have same watt-hours.

I suspect there’s some subtle detail I’ve missed (like, if you’ve a combo of series and parallel, are you putting the parallel sets in series, which is normal, or the series strings in parallel?)

Hoop, or one of the other gurus here, probably going to show up and explain how I’m wrong, and give a much better explanation/ example
