Looks like a nice step up from the Apex. Like the handle and remote switch.

Adding an extra LED and more current though will not make it much brighter, if they didn’t improve the thermal design. The Apex is a hollow tube with a thin LED plate under the LEDs. An extra LED and additional power delivery should (in theory) require increased heatsink mass beneath the LEDs

That magnificent beast is everything the Solarstorm/Apex should have been, from the center LED to the switch in the handle. Sure wish the reflectors were larger, even if they would overlap into each other.

Exactly. I also wonder how hard it’s driven and if a cheaper option could be offered minus charger and batteries.

If it is truly 45 watts then there is 2.2A to each emitter. Should be pretty close to 3000 lumens OTF.

… not necessarily. If they didn’t enhance the Apex heatsink and give it more mass beneath the LED plate, a light such as this could suffer from thermal dimming. For short bursts, though it should be brighter than the Apex. The Apex with less wattage and one less emitter already suffers from some thermal dimming, its not much though… IMHO.

There were some discussions a while back on this. When Ric was working with his Apex 5T6 supplier they made a couple different protos, each driving the LEDs at different currents. He eventually settled on the drive level that resulted in the best / most useful compromise between output and thermal dimming.
