It has worked fine since the oil massage And the clickie on the other one was fine. My main beef was with the mode change. Otherwise I like the lights. Oh, and my vote for best AA SS so far is the group by DQG AA that I just got. Then again that might just be the new light high still talking.
I just ordered a CQG S2 NW. I long thought on DQG but TIR lens and possibly narrower beam held me a bit. I wish I hadn’t missed the group buy. That would be a price to try then.
Still, I plan to get another AAA light. Should I choose Eoslamp’s two mode AAA light or should it be DQG II this time ?
That's a Trustfire F25. Se my review around here somewhere.
Mine won't change modes on a 14500 - only on a NiMH.
Buy a Trustfire F22.
OK it is enormous. One of two lights that I've lost that I bothered to replace. The Trustfire F22 is a seriously excellent light.
The Manafont only C3 SS that Mr. Admin reviewed here is a possible alternative but the F22 won't set fire to your hands on a 14500. Most other SS AA lights will. And I've bought most of them.
Nearly all of my AA lights get fed on an exclusive diet of 14500s.
YMMV if you use NiMH only. See Vectrex then as he doesn't do lithium.
Actually the beam of the DQG Tiny II NW is the best thing about this light, let's me have a whole new appreciation for TIRs... If the beam pattern and tint is anything on AA like it is on AAA... it might be a bigger reason to buy it than its size... if it only had a clicky.
there are rumors (PM by Ric) that a new batch of "DQG SS AAA III" will be unleashed very soon. i dont know if "III" actually means that there are improvements over the "II" release or if it's just a 3rd batch of the DQG Tiny AAA. but's it's going to be in SS.
The DQG Ti AAA III is still in line and will follow later. The problem with the vials hasnt been solved yet.
Because the material is stainless steel the Preon P0 weighs 24grams (with 1x AAA, on a kitchen scale), and the DQG Tiny II 25.1grams (with 1x Eneloop).
In comparison, *my* Tank E09 weighs (12.796g + 11.727g =) 24.523grams .. in other words neither the P0 nor the Tiny II are lighter than my aluminum E09. The iTP A3 aluminum is even lighter than 12.796g:
Well, I went ahead and ordered a CQG S2 earlier today. It won out over the Ultrafire C3 due to the C3's visible PWM, and I also like CQG S2's optional neutral tint.
I just received my CQG S2 yesterday. What people say about the machining is true: it's really difficult to see the seam between the tailcap and body. Nicely done. The beam is nice (for me): big hotspot and gradual transition to spill (I don't like abrupt transitions between spot and spill).
It's a really slim light (16.5 mm), and doesn't seem heavy to me. No problems switching modes, and everything worked perfectly out of the box. The switch is good for EDC'ing in a pocket too--you have to press it quite far to click it, so there's less chance of accidental turn-ons in a pocket. The neutral-white LED is nice too, although it's a tiny bit warmer than my Dry 5A3 NW. I was expecting the CQG to be slightly cooler, but it's not a problem.
My only beef with the CQG is what HBomb mentioned: the mode order was changed from L-M-H to H-M-L, and for an EDC that I will use in theatres, restaurants, etc., that's no good.
Anybody have a suggestion for a light with these characteristics?:
- L>M>H (>strobe>SOS)
- no memory
- XP-E or XP-G or XM-L
- very small body
- works with either 1xAA or 1x14500
- the low mode is quite low with a 14500, and the high mode with a nimh isn't too shabby
You can't. Can i suggest you to get a couple of the the 4700K cree emitters on stars at CNqualitygoods (check the needed led star diameter frist!) as this light really will become an excellent one in neutral white if you close youre eyes cycling through the silly blinky modes. A little buffing and it would look three times more expensive than it really is. A steel tailcap would make it even nicer but i never found SS tailcap spares anywhere.
I always wanted an inexpensive decent boost driver (AA only) three or two mode no blinkies for this one. Sorting even this out... you'll end up paying more than a stock other SS light might cost you with such features. :/
I actually intend to keep these fully stock as they will be given away (after I "test" them, of course!). I'm gonna put an Energizer Lithium AA in one of them and give it to the GF for her car and to take in her purse for safety.
You know what though...I am interested in those XM-L NW's that run at 5000k. I think I'm gonna buy one of those and possible do a TK41 swap. Thanks for the idea!
