Orange peel at the bottom of the reflector is very good, that should reduce the ringiness of your beam. The mix OP/SMO reflector should give you good throw while minimizing unwanted ring.

I was pleasantly surprised that it had a neutral white tint. The hotspot is very tight and without rings
of any kind. I measured 2.9 amps on high, so well driven. The SMO reflector is the same dimensions
as in the MRV, so can be swapped if you have this light.
Can only recommend, but I could do without the blinkies and the Next mode memory…
I just got this one! I didn’t really know what to expect from a C8, i had somehow missed that it was so throwy!
mine draws 0,75-0,95 A depending on battery (TFF bought 1,5 years ago, and cheap ultrafire blue or black), so i should probably have bought the other one as i’m not really satisfied with the light it puts out.
I also have a Jacob a60, so except for the smaller physical size i’m not sure why i would use the c8 over the a60.
And like everyone else i’m annoyed by the 5 modes, really don’t need 2x blinkies.
Is this light representative for the Q5 c8-flashlights? If so, i don’t need another one.
might read some more about diffuser-mods to this light and see what i can do

From a recommendation somewhere on BLF that I can’t find now, I decided to take the plunge and get my first C8, because I wanted another thrower, even though I already have an HD2010.

Under $10, free shipping. Got it yesterday. I have bought quite a few cheap lights before, and maybe the $6-$8 Q5 C8s have a plastic lens and reflector, but I gotta say - this rosefireboy Ultrafire Q5 C8 is NICE. Fit and finish is pretty much flawless, and the lens is quality glass and the reflector is a beautiful, solid aluminum. LED centered, etc etc… Just smacks of value all around. Beam is nice and tight and bright, decent tint, no artifacts or rings. Pulls 1.7 amps from a fully charged Solarforce V3 18650. Played with it a bit last night, and the thing throws very well, of course.
I like the size and the platform so much, I want to get another C8 in XM-L, and dig the idea of a U3 option and possible de-doming to tighten it up even more. Have to wait a bit before I can justify the $30 though.
But, will an XM-L in the C8 really out-perform the Q5 all that much in terms of throw? Obviously more lumens, but that bright little Q5 beam is a beast in the throw department. I want to get a Jacob A60 for the same reason. If I already have an HD2010, do I really need a C8 in XM-L? (From the flashaholic in me: Of course I do, and the XinTD in U3 seems to be a great idea.)

Bought the C8 q5 one listed in the original post ($6.69 one) and received it today after waiting a month and low and behold its not a C8 its a “police” light with a side clicky button and what appears to be a charging port. WTF!!! Bought to give to my buddy to mount to his gun for Christmas! Now i am screwed! Was going to make it direct drive with a green xre!!! Im so pissed right now!!!

Wow apt323 that really bites! I bought the same one but it turned out to be everything Muto said it was. Mine only pulls about .9 amps on high but still throws pretty well. I have two more slightly different q5 c8’s coming in probably in the next week or so. If you want to gift one to your buddy let me know and I will sell you one of them. You should only be 1 shipping day away.

Also, I have found all Citipower C8s and 502bs to be an excellent buy, when bidding. I have been able to get them from 7 to 11 dollars by waiting until the last 6 seconds. bestsupply88, or Pitalam are excellent sellers. Surprisingly bright for the money.

I am so sorry they sent you the wrong light after my recommendation.
I ordered another one and shortly after I ordered it, they were out of stock, so now I have to wonder what will show up whenever it does get here.
It was listed as a Nov26-Dec 1st delivery window and here it is Dec 6th and no light.
They provided a tracking number on Nov 15th, but they used that Flytexpress shipping service, which I have had problems with before.

Has anyone modded this pill? How would I get the old driver out, without ruining.
Normally you just need a pin to pry it open from the side. But in your picture, there seem to be residue of some sort - are they glued on? Then unfortunately some brute force may be necessary
