The SC18 seems pretty nice. Relatively compact, lightweight (55g + cell), USB-C charging… Price is not bad at all!
Though the SST-40 emitter is bit of a letdown…
With the light just introduced, this is of course very early, but personally would love to see a Pro version with a high CRI emitter (519A, anyone?), maybe an efficient driver and Anduril 2. Any thoughts?
Also, any plans for a 21700 version of the light? I heard little birds chirping of another brand releasing a pair of EDC flashlights utilizing 18650 and 21700 cells…
Ordered the SC18 even though I prefer 5000k. I’ve been asking for a 18650 light under 100mm from Sofirn for years now. This one comes close enough at 101.5mm. I’m hoping the UI is similar to recent simple UIs from Sofirn. Push and hold from off for moon and double tap from off for turbo?
It looks like the some recent batch of SST40 5000k that Sofirn got may be quite GREENish…
I previously had a Sofirn SC31 Pro blue (SST40 5000k, Anduril 2 version 2021-06-06 model 612).
Recently saw there’s a red color Sofirn SC31 Pro, so I got one (SST40 5000k, Anduril 2 version 2022-02-08 model 614)
As can be seen in this ceiling shot, the left one (SC31 Pro SST40 5000k, blue) is still relatively OK, but the right one (SC31 Pro SST40 5000k, red) is quite green
(it’s a bit more greenish than this camera shot shows)
Side note: checking the Anduril 2 “Models”, it would appear that Sofirn has been upgrading from ATTiny85 (model ‘612’) to ATTiny 1616 (model ‘614’)
I also got a Sofirn SC32 SST40 5000k, but it’s not that greenish… so it’s probably a ‘tint lottery’…
My SC18 came this week. Shipping is fast recently. I really am liking the sc18. It will be my new EDC for a while. Simple UI but has everything I like. Seems to run on high without overheating. Turbo is super bright. Charging works well. The beam is mostly flood with a little throw. Did my usual mods of tapering the charge flap so as not to catch on things and opening accidentally. Added a raised ring around the switch to shield it from accidental turn ons. The main thing is its size. Not much longer than the sc31pro with a shorty tube but with 18650 capacity.Win-win.Good value for about $20 with battery. Good job Sofirn.
I was also pretty miffed with the tint of the SC32 - I thought I’d seen it all when it came to green SST40s, but this one set a new low for me. I love the light otherwise!
It’s thankfully not too tough to crack open the light for an emitter swap, though if you want to put in a 3535 LED you’ll have to work around the unique MCPCB shape.
