BLF-348 - why can't someone make that have 4 levels?

Thorfire TS07 Stainless is a pretty nice AAA and small for a rear clicky. I can tolerate the PWM on Low. 3 modes, L, M, H. Emitter swap is easy enough. Put an XP-G2 R5 from Simon for $1.50 into both of mine. They were $10 or less on Amazon but currently unavailable. BG has them for $17

yeah that looks ok, would like it 70% better for $10 like the lumintop though

also the non-PWM is a plus for the lumintop too

wle

Can’t find that info anywhere, but I thought it was 110…?

Either way, even 50lm is too much for my tastes from an 1xAAA torch. About half this does wonders for the runtime.

mhanlen’s testing shows 48 lumens with an Eneloop AAA, 176 lumens with a 10440 li-ion.

Runtime tests in his video review start at the 1:43 mark.

I can’t remember where i read it, but it looks to be about half the amount of light as a 3/5 mode Convoy C8 in low mode, which is 10% of its (nearly) 1000 Lumens.

Ah, i think i heard it in the video goshdogit posted above

Heck of a coincidence, I’d just found this video from a separate search :open_mouth: Bro to the rescue again!

Still, 1 hour of runtime on a NiMH… :confounded:

Usually lights like these are used to find a keyhole, or something you accidentally dropped on the ground, short periods of time like that.
Let’s say you use it for things like that once every two days, then it’ll last 240 days on a NiMH AAA.
Or twice a day, and it’ll last for 60 days. (assuming you use it 30 seconds on average each time).
So it’s not made for hiking.

I see 1xAAA as backup to my backup with occasional use just for the heck of it, and the Ti3 spoiled me by having an indoors-friendly mode running for more than 5 hours, and 10-20 lumens are perfect for 1xAAA torches in my book (even because the first quality light I ever owned was a Fenix E01, and guess what its output is).

I know they have their specific niche, but there’s that desire of having your cake and eating it too, you know?

Yeah i know.
But i think it also fits the simplicity of the looks to just have one mode.
It’s plain and simple, straight forward, like the straight plain and simple stainless steel tube that it is, preferably without the print, clip or the keyring (and no keyring hole either).
For more options i take my Olight i3S, which has more exterior and technical features.
I love both lights.

The BLF 348 is also the perfect gift light for ‘normal people’.
No surprises like high or moonlight mode you may have to cycle through.
It’s just ‘grab and click’ for 50 Lumens of pleasant high CRI light.
It is a bit on the heavy side for its size though.

I have a SingFire 348 with a 96 CRI (and probably “9080” = a lot of deep red) 2700K Oslon LED which i really like, and one with a 219B 90 CRI 5000K
Will get some more to put single color LEDs in (365nm UV, cyan / turquoise and 660nm deep red, maybe the complete rainbow eventually).

I call my 348 an “oral flashlight” - I hold it in the mouth when I need both hands to open the gate lock, etc.
Still, to me, 20-ish Low and High would have been awesome and more practical.

I use a li-ion and once I accidentally turned it on while driving and it was in my jeans pocket.

After five minutes I put my hand in the pocket and burnt my fingers - dam it gets hot.

Just finished putting a Tiny10DD in one for my Dad, he was showing me a couple nonfunctional hearing aid cell lights and I had to act quick. Thanks DB, I remembered them.
