Bucket's 2nd Annual Scratch Made Flashlight Finished and Named!

Nice work Bucket. Your making it look easy.

I mean, really like it! This is gonna look GOOD!

It’s so nice seeing someone doing it right.

First post updated with videos. Here is making the head. Beware foul language when I make a pretty stupid mistake...

Sorry, but I had to laugh!

Sucks getting old doesn’t it? :stuck_out_tongue:

I hope you cut tapered fins.

There is enough (lots of) meat left to do fins...I just don't know if I want them or not. I've put that decision off until later. If I fin the head, it will be the last thing I do before I anodize.

Speaking of anodizing, I ordered several dye colors. I already have black, but that isn't what I want for this light. I have a nice blue, olive drab, purple and gold coming via Fleabay. Right now I am leaning towards the olive drab. Another decision is whether to cut the fins before or after anodizing...opinions?

Update:

I have the bezel almost done, so the head is nearly complete.

You’ll make it look great, however you decide to do it. Cause that’s what you do.

I forgot to add that it will have the patented Bucket Copper Pill (1.500" diameter). So think about how that will look if you have a suggestion for ano color.

You mean, like the one on my M8 and C8? Yowza! Should have figured on that, with you heading on a full blown MT-G2 build. The Olive Drab would look awesome with that, as you already know, having seen similar with my baked M8. Olive Drab ano will probably be darker, but it will still be awesome. So would Purple.

With a copper pill being finned, I wouldn’t fin the head. Totally up to you of course. Perhaps if the finning matched the pill at the contact point then got shallower up towards the bezel or something, not sure, I guess some finning would help as the thick aluminum head is going to pull heat from the copper, then disperse it, so you’re gonna have to figure out if it’s worth it to you.

If you’re going for the kind of power I’m pushing my own, I’d say give it every benefit of the doubt you possibly can. That MT-G2 makes some serious heat! And especially when pushed hard…10-12A. I’d even make the copper pill longer, the more the merrier.

This is gonna be so awesome… shame you don’t have a CNC that you’re programming as you go along, then you could sell us all one in a big OL Challenge BLF Group Buy.

I'll be converting my mill over to CNC someday. Not the lathe though. Maybe if I buy a 2nd lathe...

I see the reflector spinning video in the op but not the head milling one. Just a blank space after the text.

I saw the head turning one fine. I wish I could afford and had space for such tools or still had access to them at work. My grandfather who taught me much about making and fixing things had a lathe in his shop behind his garage. His main hobby at that time was making violins.

Thank you, and ouch! He’s not going to… He did. :stuck_out_tongue: brain fart. At least it didn’t cost you any digits. Hearing the motor hum while you’re clearing makes me cringe.

Thanks for posting the videos and the extra links. It’s always a treat watching those ribbons peel away.

I especially like watching the ribbons of Titanium coiling off the cutting carbide. And those little coils are amazingly strong!

Part Three

Mostly done with the head.

And that’s what, 2.5” in diameter? Looks almost just like the shape of the head on my little Texas Poker. Love it!

1” diameter battery tube? Bit larger? 2 cell configuration in series for the MT-G2 or are you going with 2 26650’s, making that even larger than I’m thinking? Dude, need to lay a ruler down with it.

Yep, 2.5" diameter. I'm going with 2 Kong's in series coupled with a Mountain Electronics BLF17DD to drive the MT-G2.
