Can anyone advise please?

Hello all,

I recently purchased an ‘unbranded’ zoomie flashlight, it’s identical to this:

It’s an XM-L T6, and the throw is good to be honest, now, with some research and question asking, I’ve been told the XR-E Q5 is the best for ‘throw’, which is what I’m after, so I was wondering if I can swap this:

For the original XM-L without any driver mods, if not, can you advise as to which driver circuit board etc I’ll need please?

To tell the truth, I’ve caused a lot of damage, deep scratches/gouges the the emitter in the YEZL clone by trying to remove it….it’s as though it’s glued. So any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Rob

It's better to just buy a new light that already has an XRE inside. A complete light will cost you about the same as a new XRE and driver by themselves.

Already bought the XR-E!

Nanjg AK-47.

Is that the same for my unbranded YEZL clone?

Before you buy anything else, you should completely disassemble your light engine and find out the diameter of the driver and also the diameter of the LED star.

The driver I linked has a 17mm diameter. 17mm is a common size and fits most lights, but there are exceptions. The best way to know is to look at your light and measure.

If the stock driver is 20mm, there's a 20mm version of the AK-47 here:

I’d like to disassamble it, but it simply won’t come apart, the driver/emitter won’t unscrew, I’ve caused damage to the aluminium thing with the 2 holes either side, needle nose pliers and all my strength didn’t budge it, then the pliers slipped. That’s why I was wondering if I could simply de-solder the XM-L and then solder the XR-E onto the existing driver!

It look around 20mm too!

Put your new led in this instead and you have got yourself a formidable shrower:

If I were in your shoes, I’d just keep it the way it is. Its a good FTT that holds 26650 for long run time. The throw might not be anything to brag about, but the flood is pretty bright, and very useful. If you want a fancy thrower, buy a SmallSun C10 for $14, and take the hit on the XRE that you already ordered.

C10 is a fun “novelty” flashlight. I consider it a novelty flashlight because its a fun thrower that throws amazingly far, but not very useful for practical purposes, in my opinion.

I can't say for sure because these clones can vary from unit to unit, but a direct emitter swap will probably be okay.

Voltage is fine but the question would be amperage .How many amps is the driver in the light right now . running a xre at more than about 1.7 amps is probably pushing it pretty hard . If you only run it on high for a short durations on high or if you use lame 18650's or 3 AAA's it will probably work ok . do you have a meter ?

I have a meter somewhere, but using it is another thing, it was in my garage when I moved into the house so therefore have no instructions lol.

The torch in question does have a AAA adapter though!

Oh and I ordered one of those small sun c10’s as suggested!!

Tips on using the meter would be good!!

DONE IT!

Straight swap, maybe a little underdriven but a really good thrower!

if I could remove the pill (i think it’s called) I’d try a different driver!!

Still, it’s better than it was!

So It arrived……!!

And it’s good……very good!!!

But I want more throw.

MORE THROW!
