Convoy 8A driver for KW CULPM1.TG issue

I built a Convoy M21C with the Convoy 8A driver and a KW CULPM1.TG. I went out testing last night and found a problem, that I’ve just double checked with my clamp meter.

I’ve change the group to 2, which should be 0.1, 1, 10, 35, 100, but I couldn’t see any visible difference between 35 and 100%. Just checked on the clamp meter and I’m getting 0.12, 0.437, 5.24, 8.45 and 8.5A. Does anyone else have a Convoy 8A driver they can check in group 2?

I was able to easily light up a wind turbine at 600 meters on the 5.24A, couldn’t find any landmarks further to see what the full 8A would do. I was going to put one in a M21A, but the 6A Convoy driver switches -VE, not +VE, and my KW CULPM1.TG MPCB has the -VE shorting to the core. What other 20mm driver options do I have?

Maybe a dumb question but if battery isnt full I also dont see a difference between 35 and 100.

I originally thought I was overpowering the LED and therefore no difference in brightness at the 8A, but my meter shows the last two levels are both over 8A (UNI-T UT210E clamp meter).

Is the LED heatsinked well? Good thermal paste?
8A is a lot for a passively cooled flashlight…

Yep, the neck gets warm pretty quick on 8A, so no thermal problems.
The 100% 8A isn’t the problem, its that the 35% is also 8A
I’d expect values in the region of 8mA, 80mA, 800mA, 2.8A, 8A

I changed to group 3 (100, 35, 10, 1, 0.1%) and got the same in reverse, 8A, 8A, 5A, 400mA, 120mA
I changed to group 5 (1, 20, 100%) and got 540mA, 8A, 8A.
I think I must just have a bad driver, but if someone else with the 8A driver can check, I’d be grateful.

Don’t have one so can’t help. Try Convoy’s thread if you don’t get a response here.
