【convoy】H4 and B35AM options are updated

I really hope that Simon will someday make a Convoy flashlight in a similar case! (2*21700 and 3*Nichia 519a); (2*21700 and 3*XHP70)

1 Thank

Its look beautiful but there’s the issue of temperature.

What temperature problems would there be ?

Hopefully with better aesthetics, the blocky design isn’t really my thing, and it must not feel really good in the hand either.

Thanks for you opinion, I agree that’s it’s simpler for charging with 2P configuration, and if 30~35W is enough then yeah a simple MP3431 boost driver will do.

May depend on the model of TIR optic. No issues with the 519A and beaded optics in the S21D - the beam is fantastic.

Got the replacement (new model) buck driver for my S21D! Unfortunately my light was lost/stolen a little while ago, so I guess I’ll be keeping it for a future project of some kind.

I can’t find data about efficiency of T3 and T4 drivers (13 modes) for each battery type.
Simon wrote efficiency is >90% but I assume it’s for NiMH batteries?
Do they use linear regulators for 14500?

Anyway, I’d like to know efficiency of:

- T3 with NiMH: >90%

- T3 with 14500: ?

- T4 with 2*NiMH: >90%

  • T4 with 2*14500: ?

Review of the Convoy S21E with Nichia 519A 5700k emitter.

@g_damian, the T3/T4 are using 92% efficient buck boost drivers.

Thank you

Nice. I have a question : Can you use the light without battery while its charging?

Simon, will you make a 26800 light with 519A? (ex M3-C)

I would buy a bunch of those if you made them. Either a 7135+ FET or something like the Lume1 driver, which is a buck driver with a 6A regulated channel and a FET for direct drive. If you could retrofit the 8A buck driver you have with a FET channel I will throw my money at you :stuck_out_tongue:

Oh and 80A? Please make that 0ne regulated!

8A buck driver with FET turbo would be nice, but it might need something with better thermal regulation like Anduril. Convoy thermal regulation isn’t suitable for extremely high power drivers, unless they are in large bodies.

Yeah, Simon said he would try a batch of anduril drivers, but we haven’t got any news about which hosts will be compatible. The small to medium size hosts with side eswitch would be the best candidates. It would fix all the quirks of the current ramping drivers.

In the default simpleUI mode, functionality would be very similar (simpler actually), with good, visually linear brightness ramping, good thermal regulation, shortcuts to turbo amd moonlight and lockout with excellent unlock features.

uh ,sorry ,I don’t have a proper host.

Arrived S21E with 519A (4500K) and it’s awful green, ugly batch, don’t recommend :confounded:

Sorry to hear that. But pictures tell a thousand tales.

I’m a fan of Convoy. So far, I have 519A 4500K alone on S2, M1, M2, C8 and S12. On the S2, M1 and C8 with new AR Lens, they are rosy. On the M2 and S12 with old AR lens, they are very neutral.

I was thinking 2 reasons for the green you see :

  1. Old lens used for S21E
  2. Driven a bit too hard with 6A driver on S21E

As per my review https://www.stephenknightphotography.com/post/flashlight-review-convoy-s21e-519a there is a noticeable visual difference in DUV between the 519A 5700k in the S21E with purple AR lens and S2+ with green AR lens. I would expect these are from the same batch. However, I only see this when they are side by side. Compared to my LH351D 5700k, they are both very neutral. However, I’m holding off purchasing more S21Es to see if Simon changes to using green AR lenses in the S21E. In the meantime I’ll keep using my S2+ 519A for night/urbex photography.

Also, the packaging for the S21E is not fit for purpose, with my sample arriving with a dented battery positive pole (I’ve never had a battery arrive damaged in any other light). This light has fantastic potential as a “consumer grade” light with optional battery and USB-C charging. The packaging should be adequate enough for the light to arrive intact. I would happily pay a few more $ for packaging of the quality of Sofirn/Wurkkos lights, or the gift boxes that the S2+ CSLNM1 coloured lights arrived in.

Previously I had an S2+ with the same LED from the first batch and the tint was great, only Simon put in a meaningless SMO reflector.
