Hi! Another question, what will be brighter than XHP70.3 Hi R9050 4000k or XHP70.3 Hi R70 3000k?
Now M21H with 70.3 Hi R9050, I don’t like either the brightness or the hue, GT FC40 3000k is brighter on m21b.
I use flashlights in the forest and field to search for runaway dogs and cats.

The brightest XHP70.3 HI would be R70 and cool white. 5000k R70 would be a decent compromise between cct and brightness. If you’re ok with the size and drawbacks (cool white low cri), an SBT90 in an L7 would be a good searchlight on a budget.

XHP70.3 HI Brightness: R70 6500k > R70 5000k > R70 4000k > R70 3000k > R9050 5000k > R9050 4000k > R9050 3000k

The 3000K 70cri will be brighter as it’s an N4 flux bin compared to the 4000K 90cri which is a K4, but the 3000K 70cri is also a 7C chromaticity bin which is guaranteed to have a positive Duv.

The 4000K 70cri is 5D chromaticity bin so it’s all but certain to have a negative Duv.

My XHP70.3 HI R70 3000K has beautiful tint, even rosier than my sliced 519A.

Cold white doesn’t suit me at all, I’m looking mainly in fog and light rain, I tried the R70 SST40 5000k - it’s really bad, now the working flashlight is m21B gt fc40 3000k, I need something with a longer range.
Stupidly I bought a m21h tir with 70.3 r9050 4000k - now I’m thinking what to do with it, I’ve already ordered a tir for 8 and 3 degrees

I know there’s always a tint lottery when it comes to Cree, but according to their own datasheet a 7C chromaticity bin is on or above the BBL.

Depends on how much you trust the datasheet. LH351D 3500k and SST40 5000k both have chromaticity bins below BBL, both are super green. Better to test real products and their duv.

That’s very true, and unfortunately few sellers even list the chromaticity bin you’re actually getting.

Have you thought about getting an M21A? The XHP50.3HI is not as bright as XHP70.3HI but it is higher intensity and shouldn’t get as hot.

Alternative would be L21B with XHP70.3HI R70 4000k, the big reflector gives it much more range than an M21H. If you get it, make sure to request the 8A driver instead of 5A

I have an m21a, there was a b35am on 3A driver, but it was smoking, the other day a 50.3 hi r9050 4000k arrived, all so green, although the hotspot is much better than that of the b35am.
I like the shade of 219b, gt fc40 and the LMP LML2AW.DC 4000K that arrived today - the purest white I’ve ever had.
I’m also a flashlight maniac.

M21H with its default 12 degree bead TIR is not suitable for outdoor search purpose. The beam is too dispersed. Using a high CRI 70.3 doesn’t help either as in Zeroair’s test the output is not good. Turbo peak is only 1600 lumens.

You either want to buy a new light or have to heavily modify this light. Giving it a 70 CRI 5000K 70.3 and a 3 degree clear TIR will increase throw immensely, at the expense of rendering quality.

I got an XHP50.3HI in r70 4000k from Hank (intl-outdoor) in a DM11, it is pretty neutral. Not rosy, but it isn’t greenish either.

Not too sure how convoy’s xhp50.3hi tint is like, but I would think it similar.

Also don’t worry I’m pretty sure I am worse about buying lights, I just tend to get more unique and expensive ones.

Sorry, at the moment I don’t know when the next batch will be available.

XHP70.3 HI R70 and XHP50.3 HI R70 are not greenish

I’ve been very pleased with my XHP70.3 HI 4000K R70. Very rosy for a cree.

Hi @Simon_Mao, I’d like to use the Convoy T3 driver for a low vf 2.5v led. Would this be possible?

@Simon_Mao what more can you tell us about the XML2 that show up as new arrivals? Are they the newest version? What bins are they? What do the tints look like?

Thank you

4 Thanks

Hi! Clarification, yesterday I got confused about LEDs, so, the XHP70.3 Hi R9050 4000k is almost not green, on the verge, but the XHP50.3 Hi R9050 4000k is disgustingly green and warmer (more yellow), 70.3 on TIR, 50.3 with a reflector OP

R9050 from Convoy are easy white tint bin, so you should look at flux bin on datasheet. The highest flux bin for the same CCT and CRI tend to have higher duv.
