Convoy s2+ with biscotti driver

yes, i found it but looking for a person who could reflash my biscotti flashlights
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~toykeeper/flashlight-firmware/trunk/files/head:/ToyKeeper/bistro/biscotti/

I flashed some myself(last weekend i calibrated one a6-blf driver with a battcheck way off and made some changes in a nanjg 105c with biscotti) it’s easy enough, just follow some tutorial( like this one AVR Drivers )
You need to have:

  • the parts: USB ISP programmer + SOIC 8 clip,
  • the software: AVRdude and a compiler to make the new HEX file(i use the all in one Atmel Studio 7 for windows ) of course you also need a pc/laptop

PS: using the Atmel Studio is not always easy, need to select to optimize for size in some compilations, and some have difficulties getting the Usbasp to work with Atmel Studio and have use the AVRdude to send the new HEX to the driver.

It appears nothing is wrong the the strobe in the Biscotti firmware & Ui. It is certainly not “crappy” as you suggest.

It appears it just does not meet ’your’ needs. And maybe a few other less vocal people for photography purposes???

As has been said… use the old driver or reprogram the new one. It seems there is nothing for “Simon to fix”. It ain’t broken……

I will repeat because I am of the same opinion according to Review with X-ray image: Convoy S2+ Desert Tan/Sandy Brown

so the huge community of people who most often uses this mode in the flashlight creatively

according to your suggestions…

it is not so easy to reflash the driver especially if you must cut one leg to unblock the memory. besides, you need to buy a programmer, get a little programming and look for firmware ready to modify. for most common users, this is not an option.
the same with old driver - you have to buy it and change, it’s easier but this old driver is a step back because it has memory blink (it’s also annoying with light painting), it has much less useful modes (especially low and moon) and as i remember it has only blinking warning against excessive discharge (Biscotti has cut off the power so you will not damage the cell when you leave the flashlight turned on).

what are the advantages of this police strobe? maybe its fun for some child but after all you can play as policeman with a variable bike mode or SOS if you need a real warning mode.
so it’s crappy step back with this Biscotti police strobe because S2 was close to the perfect flashlight with wide applications. large market of light painters was waiting hopefully looking at the new driver to have more modes and strobe without memory blink

no offence by my side

I just got a Convoy S2+ with Biscotti firmware. The Battery Check mode blinks 5 times, pauses, and blinks 5 times again, and does this over and over. What is the meaning of this?

I just upgraded one of my S2+ to the Biscotti driver for the SST-40 this weekend. It did the same thing to me, so I checked the voltage on the battery I was using and found it was 4.0V. According to Toykeeper’s manual for Biscotti:

This could occur due to the fact that the voltage measurements of ATTiny series microcontrollers is inaccurate, but rounding to 5V on a 4.0V battery is worse accuracy than I’ve heard of so far (I think it should be +/-0.2V).

Convoy’s driver supplier supposedly wrote their own version of Biscotti (at least that’s what they said when asked if they were complying with the license on Biscotti) and might not have implemented the same voltage check. Or it may be that the microcontroller used in Convoy’s driver is less accurate.

I will try to make some time to test it out more, unless someone beats me to it.

Yeah, as I used it, it went down to 4 blinks, then 3, then 2, then 1 at which time it started blinking periodically. I turned it off then. When I got back home I measured the battery and it was at 3.2v. Maybe each blink is 20% ?

Huh. It’s possible. Can you check with a fully charged cell later and see if you get 6 blinks?
