I was really trying to be civilized and not say anything negative. Then I read your post and it all comes back to me.
I’m with ya FlashPilot :+1: .
I could add some more to that, but it’s not worth it.
No secrets there, and I do believe I was being civil and truthful. Most victims of their verbal attacks that I am aware of, would love to see the very worse happen to them. Its probably just a matter of time before they insult the wrong person with the determination and means of seeking their own version of retribution. For their sake, I hope those long multi-celled flashlight still fit sideways after exceeding 12” in length. I’ll just leave it at that…
See, the problem with CPF vs BLF is mainly the audience that founded it, and how they handle things.
While someone like sbslider is an excellent admin, is open about discussion, and only uses his admin power carefully, CPF admins tends to push their power to the limit when they hear something they don’t like.
Also, sharing knowledge(at least how, and not the full steps) is recommended on BLF, and even rewarded.
CPF is a closed community with many people keeping their secrets under wrap, and don’t like it too much when someone reveals it.
I can understand it, but hiding something that can easily be found by someone determined is what undermines CPF for me.
Finally, the straw for me making me prefer BLF a whole lot is purchase justification.
Seeing the lengths people at CPF trying to justify their stupid expensive purchases, or even purchasing 4 figure cost lights is mind boggling. That last part just drives me up the wall, but I understand why people do it, so I never say anything. This is why I dislike Flashlight Fanatics on Facebook, other than being on Facebook of course.
TLDR: BLF is open and kind, even if you don’t conform. CPF, to my eyes, is the completely opposite.
I agree that this shouldn’t turn into a CPF bashing thread. But I do sincerely appreciate everyone’s presence and participation here on BLF, and many thanks for making it a friendly and vibrant open community.
Here’s all I know,
I don’t go to that other site or the Faceplant sites, everything I need is here.
Our community is actively creating new flashlights in concert with manufacturers who really want to give the people what they want.
We vet the hardware, write or improve the software and UI and get budget conscious flashlights built that don’t break the bank and still be something you can proud to own.
Now, show me a Faceplant group or any other enthusiast site that does all that?
Rant/brag off.
Thanks to the group and especially sb56637 for having me and us.
Ha, Faceplant. I’m definitely not a fan of FB either, and I never will be. Reddit has also become a very toxic place in general, exactly what I don’t what BLF to become.
I was a member of CPF back in the mid 2000’s but somewhere along the years I lost interest. I recently got back into lights after some camping and discovered this new forum. The feeling here is very inviting, and the idea that one can make such specific requests from manufacturers is incredible to me. I have made purchases based on the recommendations I have read here and I was pleasantly surprised. I tried going back and searching in CPF but I found it hard to navigate, that and the results were sparse. I appreciate seeing the freedom to contribute and the embracing of the wide range in budget. Thanks for the super informative threads and posts, I’ve learned a lot from them and hope to learn much more.
Heh, didn’t take them long to close it.
While the moderation on CPF can be oppressive, I still find it better for discussion of Zebralights (I’m a fan-boy), and battery-related stuff. BLF is definitely better at discussing new flashlights and the tech in general. CPF does seems to have stagnated in recent years, and seems more focused on US produced flashlights than the stuff coming out of China (which I personally find much more innovative than the US stuff).
