I’m trying to source a Cree XHP70.2 on a 20mm copper star with dual isolated connections.
I remember seeing someone selling these a while ago, but I cannot find the link.
All the usual vendors selling XHP70.2 on a copper star use a single (plus\minus) connection. The 70.2 is actually four emitters on the same die, wired as 2x 2S, so in theory you can configure a 6v device as 12v, or a 12v as 24v, provided the star mpcb brings the separate connections out.
Looking at using two drivers on a single emitter for redundancy, as many drivers seem to run hot.
but a lot of MCPCBs you can easily convert removing a line of copper in the middle on both sides
Its more common to buy a good reliable driver than 2 cheap Chinese crap ones running still too close to max. spec
The failure/return rate on my LM3409 builds for XHP70.2 up to 8A 2 or 4S is almost 0
using proper quality components and staying within specs is the key to make a reliable driver
I usually do oversize the inductors and capacitors by factor 2 or 3, running 2-3 0.5-1W sense resistors parallel
Also having a very good MOSFET is a key to keep switching losses low
