CRX, in the first post I see “FourSevens Mini AA Ti - MT-G2 Q0 5000K - FET 15 - 2x14250 - Rv Clicky Tail Sw - 1960lm”.
But after clicking the link I see 1600 lm instead.
The brighter measurement would have been taken with brand new cells and the lower taken with the 14250 cells worn in after a while. I would go with the lower number.
All measurements are taken on my small home made hobbysphere
CRX, looking at some of your modded lights, specially those that already have a charging port/circuit and where you replace the driver, can you tell if there is any concern regarding the ‘charging circuit vs the new driver’?
I want to mod a light that already has in-built charging, but I wanna mod the driver (probably with Bistro HD OSTM firmware), but I never did this and was thinking eventual conflicts between the circuits! You did some so far, hence my question
Depends on the setup really.
I think I usually just install a new separate charging pass through unit on builds like that unless the original driver/ charger units can be split. I’m not a driver guru so just hack it
What light?
Thanks for the reply mate
The light is the new On The Road 311. It has the head, where the driver is ( it has a spring to touch the upper part of the charging platform), and the the charging part is on the top of the body (not detachable).
My only concern is to provoque any kind of short, malfunction or…a drive whose UI doesn’t act correctly due to some aspect related to the charging circuit.
I ain’t guru of any of these things so…I just hope I don’t mess it badly
With the pass-through in the body like that, you can swap just about whatever drive you want on top. Just be careful about how the contacts are for positive and negative and you’ll be fine.
That puts the light on my radar, BTW. I own several lights with the built-in charger in that style, but without tail switches. They’re in a pile of “I swear I’ll add a tail switch someday” but I’m probably deceiving myself. This is… this checks a lot of boxes. MascaratumB, if you do mod this, would you be kind enough to document it? Photos and/or descriptions of what may be hangups would be extremely useful!
Now I just have to find budget and time for this (and the other half-finished mods I’ve got going)… and a kid due in September…
Thanks for the reply Scallywag, and congratulations in advance I hope everything goes well with all the family
I will take care about the contacts!
And when the light arrives, I will review it, and in case I mod it I will document it for sure
This will be my first in a light like this, so I will take photos and describe it!
Seeing some of the mods made by CRX in this thread alerted me to this possibility, but not knowing the implications was bugging me.
Now I just want to arrive and in some months I’ll mod it (I have to check the driver diameter and the flashlight structure
Wow. Your work is amazing. Truly beyond reproach. I had no idea the level of expertise that could be achieved. I’m a DIY type guy, I build a lot of things. Your work humbles me.
After chatting with a new friend dmenezes, and amazed he hadn’t heard or CRX and his modding wizardry I thought this thread was more than worthy of a bump. Time passes so quickly and then you realise it’s been over 2 years since he was last on, hopefully the old dog will get notified and come back to say hi, maybe make all drool again with some new creations! Also many of the new users will also never have heard of him, or seen his work - I think they’d appreciate seeing it! wasn’t always about high cri etc… a long time ago on a forum far far away…the old blf lol! I have dropped him a line to see if I can wake him from his slumber
For those that aren’t familiar CRX worked with mostly hand tools. I think he had a drill and a dremel… maybe something else but mostly hand tools. As you can see above he created works of art with those tools. Old Lumens was the godfather of modding but CRX was the crazy uncle with insane skills.
Fun fact, he toned it down a lot out of respect for sb and the way he runs this forum but CRX had a foul mouth and a hot temper … hope you’re doing well ya crazy Scott’
I wasn’t going to say anything (in this thread), but CRX and I didn’t used to get along at all.
But in more recent years, we’ve left each other alone, and I honestly hope that CRX is doing okay.
