Did I buy a fake Xiaomi Power Bank?

Well the pictures show what appears to be samsung batteries, but they are just using stock pictures.

So i doubt unless you contact them and ask them to open one up… or buy one, then there is no way to tell.

It is 99% sure to be a fake coming from some no-name chinese online website like this. The real ones are supposedly only sold by Xiaomi. The pictures shown are just copied from another website, they are not photos made by Tiny Deal

Buy from the vendor I did, then file a dispute it is fake and they will refund your money. Mine does not have 10400mAh available - but it is enough to charge a cell phone. At least it did not blow up the several times I depleted the batteries as quick as I could by partially charging my iPad2. Yes, this is unscrupulous advice but they are an unscrupulous dealer. Who knows - maybe they will actually sell you a real one :face_with_monocle:

I’ve been lucky with my online purchases so far (none of the sellers misinformed me about the originality of their goods when I asked them directly). There are tons of original branded phones (Xiaomi, Lenovo etc. ) on Aliexpress and Tinydeal too. So there must be honest sellers with original power banks too I suppose.

For the record, this link to an enthusiast board is how I identified if mine was a fake, I hope others find it useful.

Ah great! Thanks for the link! I see it uses TI BQ24195 .

I received one today form Banggood. I don’t want to tear it open just yet, but I compared it to these fake vs real pictures, and it definitely looks genuine! Everything form paper packaging, cable, box to the unit itself looks as it should. Be aware, though - one review says:
“I was sent a non-genuine item (no passthrough charging, wrong cells, small PCB, bad build quality), but as soon as I told Banggood about this and sent them a picture demonstrating the fake internals, they immediately shipped me a genuine replacement for free. Couldn’t ask for more!”
Trust, but verify.

3794 sold! Not bad. I received 2 fakes from Aliexpress but I got refund through dispute. Xiaomi is selling at $12 (exclude local shipping) right now from official website in my country. Not going to import from overseas any more.

99% sure yours is a fake. It isn’t a product generally available to these sketchy budget flashlight/trinket chinese websites.

Wow, good to know we have an expert here! And not just some expert… Usually so called “experts” ask you hundreds of questions, make you test this and try that. You just know without ever laying eyes on it, that’s a different level!
I’ll open a case with Banggood and link to your comment for proof, they’ll have to refund me immediately!

You know, it’s funny how people can be easily duped. And how chinese fakes are 100% identical to the real products. I checked everything - fonts, paper packaging, plastic box, manual, USB connector shapes and colors, every aspect of the cable, the ability to do passthrough charging, you name it… And I was still wrong! OMG.

Oh wait, you’re the OP, who wasn’t sure if your unit was real even after opening it :open_mouth: So much for expert.
Next time please refrain from bold claims without facts to support it, ok? I opened it up, just for you:

Thanks for the pictures, xelario.

THanks Xelario for posting those pics. You can clearly see the internal parts of the power bank for reference. Was it hard to open the unit? Did you use any special tools?

Best way to ensure you don’t buy fake xiaomi products is to order only from your country’s/present location authorised partner. Bought 2 5200mAh Xiaomi powerbanks from Xiaomi’s official distributor in my country for $10 each. Tom they will have a promo again and will try my luck in getting 1 10400mAh version for $14.65.

Glad to help. Sorry for the late reply, been swamped lately.
The hard part is removing white plastic covers without leaving a mark, I failed.
After that there’s just some screws.

You can find disassembly vids on YouTube:

Thanks for sharing, just bought one online, not sure if its fake or not, reports are contradicting, so fingers crossed :D!

In case it turns out to be fake I will simply declare it as not received, its much easier to get your money back that way rather than argue with seller and dispute about authenticity of fake product and risk not getting your money back!

I know Im gambling here, but the price was almost lowest one and they supposedly ship from Europe!

Now, everyone whos interested can go to Chinaprices and search for it, I wont name store :D!

first rule of xiaomi, if you easily bought them, they are
most likely fake

Thats where Paypal will get me covered :D!
In that case it will be so much easier to spend 21$ for genuine one since it will cost only additional 5$ on top of refunded 16$ :D!

Banggood had a good deal on xiaomi some months ago. Any ideas should I expect to receive genuine or fake?

Congrats, you definitely bought the fake xiaomi power bank. I’m from China and I gotta tell you even people in China are difficult to buy an anthentic one, not mention other areas. And xiaomi company’s CEO leijun respond to such power bank from weibo (Chinese twitter) said, if you want to buy authentic then buy from xiaomi official website, other sites are fake!

If only people read the thread before asking questions, am I right?
In any case, check after receiving.

I cant buy from official Xiaomi store, it shows that its sold out for that super attractive 11$ price :)!

Well, I guess I will have to ask for my money back and then order the real deal from legit sources mentioned in this thread ;)!

Yes, people should at least try to run through this thread if not focusing on every post to memorize it :)! Banggood shipped to someone fake bank and after complaint re-sent the original one :)!

I want original one and I will definitely order it, basically its free power bank capsule with 4 good brand name cells or the other way around, 4 free brand name cells that come in quality enclosure :)!

I also bought a fake one from AliExpress - Got a full refund, so no problem.

What to do with that?
Instant-throw-away or is there any use for those cells?
