You're wondering if the 980L maintains its high output for longer . . . the slow moving cogs in my head are saying that 5 amps drains an 18650 faster than 3.5 amps? Also; isn't a 980L direct drive on high?

I was under the impression that the extra current draw on the 980L was being wasted as heat. Indeed, the 980L does get a lot hotter. A run time comparison between the two would tell a lot but the 980L will probably start a fire long before the battery gets noticeably weaker. If your theory is correct . . . well, wouldn't be the first time I got it wrong.

You couldn't of said that any better. You build your car for street racing and no matter what there is always someone faster than you. So you spend more money to go faster and it happens again.
