Do you know OR ever visited Bali Island, Indonesia?

I’ll try to visit :

- Pundi Pundi Restaurant in Ubud

- Casa Luna Cafe

- Indus Restaurant

- But I’ll pass on Janet’s cooking classes

- Cafe Lotus in Ubud for a meal on the low tables at a lotus pond in front of a temple

  • Ku De Ta by the beach in Legian/Kuta for a drink with music

I first visited Bali 35 years ago when it looked like a small village. Been coming here every few years and watch it grow to what Bali .is today. I now run a small hotel in the suburb of Seminyak called Casa Minha Bali Hotel and try to earn a living from my efforts here.
Let me know if you ever come to Bali and I will personally show you around this lovely island.

I was probably a little harsh. It is a beautiful island if you get out from the towns.I still prefer Java.
this place is worth a visit

Borobudur.

We (my girlfriend and I) were there about 2 years ago.

Only thing I can add that hasn’t been said is the ‘wild dolphin’ tour at the northern end of the island isn’t worth going to.
It’s sold as a chance to see a local pod of native dolphins at sunrise.
In reality it’s a Frankenstein tour where the tour operator will “sell” you to a driver, who will bargain for a boat and breakfast at the lowest prices he can find.

Once you’re on the water, it’s dozens (depending on time of year, I guess? I counted at least 80 on the water when I was there) of boats waiting for any sign of dolphin, and then mobbing them until they dive to escape. Poor things aren’t ‘playing’ or ‘frolicking’, they’re spending 3 or so hours avoiding people.

Oh, there’s a long strip of beach restaurants to the southwest of Denpansar if I remember correctly. Our guide took us there (for his fee AND his kickback, of course)… They’re basically all the same, with low to mediocre food, tables out on the sand, and a gorgeous view. If you’re looking for a place to take a lonely lady to watch the sunset, it might be worth it, but only if she has no working tastebuds.

Spent a week there in 1995, on my way home from Australia (amazing country with great friendly people btw!) and to me it mostly felt like a touristtrap and a place for aussies to blow off steam…
Mostly regretted not spending that week in Australia too…

I will definitely consider your kind offer and let you know when my plans are firmed up! My research is a steep learning curve but the info so far on your hotel and this predominantly Hindu island is really charming. Cheers!

I checked your info provided and I think the dolphins are found at Lovina Beach in the North of Bali :

The Beach sunset restaurants are at Jimbaran Bay :

Sorry about that, I guess I was unclear that those are two separate things we did on different days. Only food we had at Lovina beach was the included tour ‘breakfast’ of two slices of bread with butter and jam.

Not exactly on location or in topic, but I would like to visit Lake Toba:

BTW:
I have a long time dream, which I got on my tour around Europe - to some day drive through and around US.
When time comes, I will absolutely post a thread here, asking for tips about nice places to see

Great thread, carry on! 8)
