Henk4u2: Dyson cordless vacuums are extremely good and worth the money. My V10 is brilliant, very effective. However, Dyson hand driers are IMO awful, and that lamp is a ridiculous price. I don’t agree they make function follow form, Dyson has a history of rethinking consumer goods, but I’m not convinced his products always work as well as claimed. The designer of the lamp is his son. Draw your own conclusions.

Anyway, one of the few values the now paralysed European Consumer Boards are allowed to test is the stamina of cordless vacuums. I have seen the test. I am a dog owner and I would have to re-charge that V10 twice before I even finish te livingroom.

Edit: the dogs have dog baskets, pillows, et cetera, in every corner. And I have a wife.

Unlike you I own a Dyson cordless V10 as do at least three colleagues in my company which has less than ten employees. At least two own dogs.

I do my whole house and get nowhere near using the full charge. If your dog hair really is that tough, then a corded vacuum is your only option.

I don’t trust EU tests. The labels for car tyres are worse than useless, utter rubbish.

Oh, and the reason I don’t trust EU tests is because the EU are influenced heavily by big business, especially German. Those tyre labels were the result of pressure from industry, and were originally just eco ratings. The original vacuum tests favoured non Dysons, due to pressure from non UK EU manufacturers.

“to help reduce eye strain”. They should’ve gone with a bar light in that case. This is still a kind of point source light which I personally find terrible for eye strain.

Idk about those V10 but I own an older dyson vac and the batteries are crap. The cells are great but there is no balance charging going on, there is only over-discharging protection accros the whole pack not the cells induvidually. So even after only a couple of charge/discharge cycles the pack is out of balance and as a result has a horrible runtime.The only thing inside the pack are the cells and thermistor (theristor?) to protect the pack from to high temps.
I replaced the battery with a Lipo pack that I charge sepperatly with a balance charger. The vac works great and now has some decent runtime but it stil a plastic overpriced POS if you ask me.

Which cordless vacuum do you have? I have a DC35 and it is known for batteries wearing out after a year or two. To be honest those batteries are a bit rubbish. It is though an old model. They claim the V10 will last ten years with the same battery.

I love Dyson products in general. I bought multiple Dyson cordless vacuums for family members and they all loved it. I’m waiting for black friday to upgrade my V8 absolute the V11 absolute. This is something I can easily say with confidence that it is the BEST cordless vacuum in the world.

Btw, the cool & hot air purifier is also fantastic and gets constant use in my house.

Since we are off topic I might as well contribute. I was a bit upset about my V8 battery dying outside of warranty but they replaced it for free locally outside of warranty.

The fact that there’s just as much talk here about vacuums is testiment to how iconic dyson is to the domestic vacuum industry.

We had a DC23 (dyson) until a few months ago. Also had a Hoover cordless at the same time. The hoover was rubbish and I thought so at the time of buying but it was what the missus wanted.

We now have a bosch cordless and got rid of the other 2. The bosch runs on tool packs and comes with a spare battery pack so if the charge runs flat during use then it’s a quick change over and keep on vac’ing. That’s one of the reasons we ‘didn’t’ get a dyson cordless. This one is a very capable machine and i like it a lot

Last two pictures shows an awful lot of electronics on that BMS and I cant imagine in the 4+ newer models they haven’t also refined that.

Dyson re-designs litterally every part in any contraption they manufacture.
But they make as a habit ONE big mistake. Dysons 1st law boils down to: function follows form.
They make beautiful mediocre things with a price-tag that make insecure punters think they bought the best.
Funny, because it comes usually with a cash-back option that is large enough to buy a really good machine.

My personal opinion is that they have more marketeers and lawyers on their payroll than SF in its heydays.
And of course they advocate the rules that suits them best. And to go to the courts that suits them best.
Brexiteer Dyson was disputing the EU’s own energy efficiency labelling for vacuums, which allowed testing to be done with empty new machines. Dyson claimed this discriminated against its bagless machines in favour of continental rivals which used bags and filters, because bags and filters clog up with dust over time, reducing efficiency. Dyson argued this ignored the EU’s own directive, which says efficiency must be calculated to “reflect normal conditions of use”. So he appealed to the European Court of Justice. The ECJ sent the case back to the lower court after finding it had “distorted the facts” in the original ruling. Dyson won this 5yr battle.

Several points in your post are worth commenting on. James Dyson is an engineer, and he likes to champion engineering, as he struggled to get innovative ideas taken up by establshed companies. Dyson employs huge numbers of ‘engineers’. I know this as an ex-colleague, an Iranian with a PhD, went to work for them. They have a lot of PhD level staff. They design their own motors for example.

And as for your comment that Dyson changes the rules to sut him, in fact the rules had been stitched up to favour hoovers with bags. As for how good Dyson vacuums are, countless independent reviews conclude that they are the best. That said, the latest Bosch vacuums do look good.
