Also check Costco.
I wear prescription glasses. I get my driving and sunglasses from ZENNI http://www.zennioptical.com. I have about 6 pair including bifocals and progressives. All have been accurate and well done. Very pleased. Max price was for progressives @$45.00 including shipping. No sunglass would be worth $300 to me.

Zenni is a great place for low priced prescription sunglasses.
Can some people post their sierratradingpost referral links? I might buy something soon and a referral will give both me and a referrer some credit in the store.
Very informative.
I wear Oakley “Big Tacos” almost every day. Unless I am wearing another pair. Not really “budget” but I have only paid over $100 for a couple pairs, most in the $60-$80 range. Ususally buy them on eBay and private forum markets. You have to be careful though and know what you are buying, and be able to spot fakes.
I don’t remember if it was this video I watched or one similar, but it is also informative. *I don’t know if this was before or after Luxotica acquired them.
I agree that Oakley are the best…I wear my XS and Juliet X-metals every time it is sunny in Vancouver.
Cool!!
Interesting thread. I’ve worn prescription sunglasses for years, but I’ve heard that vuarnet basically makes the best sunglass lenses around. You can find them used pretty reasonably… Plus you’ll look like a douchebag from a 1980s movie. Lol!
For a long time I used the Bolle Tourney Leader, then they stopped making them and I switched to the Bolle Coral. They have nice tall lenses that cover well but now they too are no longer made so I’ll soon have to find another style.
I added a new attachment point so that I can EDC my sunglasses a little more securely. And they get cheaper the longer I keep them!
Every pair of cheap sunglasses I have tried distort my vision so I cannot wear them.
If price is no object, the best sunglasses are Revo. Will set you back over $300 but worth every penny.
Couple years back I got into looking for some glasses for cycling.
Everyone was into the Oakley stuff. Pretty nice, pretty expensive. I ended getting Tifosi glasses, which were also nice and more bang for buck.
They have sunglasses that you can use for EDC and whatever outdoors activity. I bought another pair of anti-glare sunglasses that sre basically normal sunglasses you can use for anything. These were about the 50 bucks you mentioned.
Check them out. maybe you’ll find something.
I have these clip on sunglasses.

The sunglasses are very nice, but I wish I would have chosen grey instead of blue.
With these blue ones, I can see blue light in my periphery, which is a little annoying.
Second for tifosi, they’re very affordable and works well. I use them for cycling glass , also have a regular one for driving. Their coating lasts longer than Oakley for me.
Just like flashlights, I’ve spent money on sunglasses to find what I like but nothing too expensive. I found these (actually slightly different frame) at Wal-Mart a number of years ago. When I wear them now, they don’t have ‘enough’ anti-reflective coating so they’re irritating due to that. Didn’t bother me until I bought better quality.
After that, I was hooked on polarized lenses (and need them because I do live at a very sunny latitude).
My wife then bought me some real Oakleys and after that, I would buy offerings on Woot, between $60 and $80, including Costa Del Mar models. I then put in an order for prescription Costas, which could cost up to $800, but I was able to get a number of coupons to only pay ~$250. I’m totally sold on their lens technology… better than Oakley.
After years of wearing expensive sunglasses I discovered Shady Rays- Great glasses and insxpensive
8 year thread bump pretty impressive. I’m due new prescription glasses and sunnies, I replace both at the same time (if my prescription changes) so as to not get a headache switching between the two. I’ve never considered prescription sunglasses besides what the large chain opticians offer, maybe I’ll have a look at what’s on offer.
Don’t wear contacts as I’m in Africa quite frequently, the dust and lack of sanitised water for washing hands before putting lenses in/out makes them unpractical.
Have a love-hate relationship with polarised glasses, they really do help cut reflections, but often many LCD screens (including phones) are invisible or very dim.
I’ve been buyong my shades from this merchant for many years.
you WILL find many choices in your price range.
Genuine brands - returns accepted.
I’m a eyewear snob, 61 yrs old, former parcel delivery driver - many years driving with full sun in my face.
Today, I only wear Serengeti polarized , photochromic mineral glass lenses with 100% UV protection.
You want a razor sharp view every time? Serengeti glass.
For around or under $15, I’ve been using Merry’s sunglasses on Amazon for years.
