Emisar D3AA is available now

Waiting for people to receive theirs and compare to the FT03S…I’m starting to think 20% more candela than the FT03S is possible. The reflector must be atleast 5% wider which means more than 5% extra candela. On top of that we have a better deigned reflector, better internals and a higher binned LED.

I too think it will perform better than the FT03S. My status for K1 with SBT:

Are you guys using 4px.com to track?

Yes…until it gets to USA then USPS. It says it in my first scan.

On a side note. Besides all her good qualities, pretty, smart, caring[a Nurse] , generous ect. You KNOW you have a good girlfriend when you send her Beam shots and she likes them!

She also goes night hiking with me me once or twice a week. :+1:

She is a junior Flashaholic. :sunglasses:

My XHP35 HI 3000K arrived today and I took some initial measurements. Note I’m using a smartphone and a shoebox, calibrated from maukka’s measurements of a model of light that I also own, so there could be some error. My numbers tend to pass sanity checks in other cases though, so I don’t think I’m terribly far off. These are power-on numbers, not 30s.

  • Max output: ~1600lm (claimed: 1800)
  • Intensity: ~224kcd (claimed: 270)
  • Throwiness: 140lm/w (claimed: 169)

So a bit short of advertised, but not enough to notice with the naked eye. I’m content with that. I’m also pleased to see that I don’t lose any significant amount of output when the battery is low. Enthusiast-grade lights usually use driver types where output depends on battery voltage, which I do not prefer.

What concerns me a bit more is the driver’s performance near maximum output. With a series ammeter, I saw 5.5A for 1300lm, and 9.6A for 1600lm. Based on HKJ’s testing of voltage sag with the 50E battery I used, that’s 4.0V*5.5A=22.0W and 1300lm/22W = 59 lm/W, and 3.9V*9.6A=37.44W and 1600lm/37.44W = 43 lm/W. At 1000 lumens, I’m seeing 3.3A*4.1V=13.5W and 1000lm/13.5W = 74lm/W.

These are preliminary numbers, not taken with the most precise equipment, but I’m sure we’ll see better measurements as time goes on. Still, I’m pretty sure I’m not ridiculously far off here, and these aren’t the sort of numbers I was hoping to see. A major reason I was excited for the XHP35 model is that linear and FET drivers have inherent inefficiencies boost drivers do not. While some of the first lights to push an XHP35 hard from a single cell struggled significantly, more recent offerings, e.g. the Thrunite TC15 have done quite well. Efficiency drops off a cliff at higher output in my K1, much like Armytek’s 12V boost driver.

I took a couple of quick shots with the K1 XHP35 4000K. For comparison, the second shot is a C8+ with XP-L HI 4000K (XPLAWT-H0-0000-000BV20E5). The C8+ is using a DrJones H17F driver on turbo.

I measured the K1 at 2000lm max and the C8+ at 1200lm. The K1 CCT shifts from ~3900K to 4300K at turbo.

I take brightness measurements using ceiling bounce so there is margin for error. My meter is calibrated and my measurements are repeatable.

The trees at the far side of the field are approximately 430m away.

Do not introduce resistance if you want a see a lower number, as the driver will increase current to compensate for the voltage drop, that is what a boost driver should do.
Try using a clamp meter with thick wires.
If an LED has a lower Vf than another that one will have a lower input current (at the tail with a camp meter) for the same voltage input.

ONLY 2400 Miles away! Looks like I should have it next week. :+1: :sunglasses:

@Rayoui, the beamshot looks great :+1:

@BaronVonEissler You are lucky, mine is still stuck in Shenzhen.

When did you order?

@BaronVonEissler with 4px. I live in Canada.

2020-05-10 22:46 SHENZHEN / the package has arrived at the SHENZHEN Sorting Center, and has been sorted and shipped out.

I also have a zebralight somewhere in China without update for two months.

That is strange. Mine never was in Shenzhen. Mine went from Shanghai to Hong Kong to LA[USA].

Hopefully yours gets to Hong Kong soon then towards Canada.

Hank mentioned it takes a lot of time to ship to canada because of Singapore post, but 4px doesn’t seem to have anything to do with Singapor… So I wonder. It will arrive eventually

This is, of course correct. I don’t have a clamp meter, and haven’t needed one often enough to justify it. The number may be slightly high, but there are ways to sanity-check it. Here’s one:

LVP starts throttling at 27 minutes. That’s consistent with a load around 10A, and we can compute efficiency from the area under the curve, as done in this spreadsheet which uses HKJ’s figure of 15.5 Wh @ 10A for the 50E. Capacity is probably actually higher and efficiency lower because it runs at reduced output for another 24 minutes, but I’m rounding in its favor here and getting 58 lm/W for the whole graph (and surely a lower number for the high portion).

I just noticed that the price is gone up by $10! and the SBT90.2 is also gone up by $10. That’s $20 more than a few days ago.

Yes…I see that! Glad I bought mine on April 28th when he announced SBT90.2.

The 40T battery went up also. About $2 more making it $16.80!

$7.25 at Liionwholesale. Less than half the price! Other USA dealers sell it at similar prices.
