Can’t go wrong with either. I’ve said since the day I first got my EM-01 that it was the nicest small/medium sized folder for the money that I know of. It may not be perfect for everyone but in terms of fit and finish and what you get for the money, you just can’t beat it! If it was $30, nobody would blink an eye, it’s that we’ll made.
As for the EL-01, enough ink has been spilled on that so I won’t sing its praises too much. It’s a good knife and well made. Not my absolute favorite large budget folder but it ranks way up for sure. Considering that I got mine for about $10.00 and the knives that I think are better (Ganzo 710, Navy 631) are about double the price, I say it’s a deal.
Agreed , I gotta admit… I don’t generally care for small knives. But I do really like the EM-01, well built, easy to use… & sharpens up fast. Can’t ask much more from a knife.
I would avoid buying any of the CRKT knifes. I was working with my CRKT Shenanigan last weekend. Well, I got it wet… didn’t think much about it wiped it off. Closed it up & forgot about it. Long story short… Whatever metal they use in that knife is prone to rust, QUICKLY! I opened it up last night and there was rust all over it. It cleaned up fine but I have never seen a blade rust so quickly from just water.
I like rustable non-stainless steel knives, sometimes including pocket knives, because they are more interesting and they sometimes take a better edge and a more acute angle edge, because they can have more bulk hardness. But most people feel the way you do, so they should either put in enough chromium to be stainless or label it clearly “carbon steel”.
I dont mind a blade that will rust a little. Like the smaller pocket tri blades & such…For some unknown reason the bigger single blades I expect to stay clean w/ no rust. Might be my OCD acting up LOL
Is that the knife that Exduct has in the black/tan set for 27 bucks? It’s all I can do not to order it. The urge is too strong. I have also been craving a Kershaw Skyline. Must. Resist.
Already messaged about this knife to Dale but I think if the quality is high enough it would be a better alternative to the EM-01.
I find the EM-01 too hard to open with the thumb stud due to my big hands and awkward grip on a small knife, the flipper would be easy for me on a smaller knife.
Its about 4mm longer than the EM-01 but it has a flipper like the EL-01.
On another note, my L05-1 from FastTech was seized by customs, even thought its not a flipper its about the same size as the EL-01 and for $9 I had to try it.
