You can tell Pirates of the Caribbean borrowed from this heavily and largely improved on it. I think this could have been a lot better with a tighter cut and another pass over the dialogue (weird phrasing at times)
Also, I have to mention that Gina’s character Morgan is written like a male character. It’s really evident at times, almost like it was a last minute decision. This can be seen in every aspect, not just the physical side.
However, on the physical side: Elizabeth from PotC is more smartly written in that she wins through brains and skill, whereas Morgan just straight up wins 2v1 fistfights against men somehow.
Anyway I give it 6/10, pretty fun and the sets and costuming were great. The fight choreography wasn’t perfect but it was imaginative enough to be entertaining. (even if the climactic battle goes on for a bit too long)
Hilariously cliched writing at the start followed by a really unsatisfying ending. I give it a 4/10
What’s really interesting about this film is how it was produced, and how much time effort and money was sunk in. The character model for the main heroine was intended to be reused as the worlds first digital movie star!
Well at least the first one didn’t feel like a wannabe Marvel movie. The first one has bad, BAD writing. The second one is just too James Gunn-y.
Have you never been a Will Smith fan? I’ve always thought he had natural on-screen charisma. For me he’s fun in movies like Independence Day and I, Robot.
That whole thing with slapping Chris Rock was weird and embarrassing but overall it just left me thinking the guy has mental health issues. After all, he’s white knighting for a wife who cheated on him with a man 21 yrs her junior…
