Fireflies PL47G2 Discussion Thread

Thanx Fireflies, ordered one

Anyone experience with flashing the PL47G2?Witch progkey can I use?

Hi, is the ff-light.com website down for everyone?

hi,
I disassembled it to see what package the aux leds are, as guessed by Firelight2 they’re 603 (1608 metric) leds, but I measured the voltage and resistance and it’s a bit strange, voltage across a led is 2.56V, and across its series resistor is 0.96V (10kΩ), firstly that doesn’t add up to the voltage of the cell (4V at the time), but maybe there is some voltage drop from the controller or something.

Secondly the voltage across the leds is a bit high, the current per led is 0.96/10000 so 96µA (which approximately add up to the current drain directly on the cell), the cyan leds 603 that I found should have a lower voltage at such low current (although not that much, 2.3~2.4V)

But if I want to replace with amber leds like this one with about 1.6~1.7V fV at very low current, the resistors should be more about 20k for 96µA (3.5-1.7/0.000096=18750)… , with the original 10K it’ll be about 180µA per led which will drain the cell 2 times faster.

the cyan leds linked are like ~30mcd/mA though, while the amber is ~4.5mcd/mA, huge difference, but the aux leds are originally way too bright for my taste anyway.

Any mistakes here ?

I guess I should either change the resistors, or simply put half as much leds to keep the drain similar (about 1.6mA total at 4V cell), I’m probably going to do the latter, less work and the resistors are 402(1005), not sure I have the soldering skills.

Changing the button led would be nice too, but the retaining ring seems difficult to remove, at least without damaging the switch cap, press fitted rings are annoying…

I had the battery out of my PL47 G2 overnight to charge. Put it back in and noticed the aux LEDs were off and it was in muggle mode. My levels settings had also changed. I thought maybe it reset to defaults but it got way to hot on turbo, probably 70-80C. The temp calibration was off by about 10C. Has anybody else had this happen? Did it just reset to defaults? I’ve had it with the cap unscrewed for days many times and never had this happen.

Any discount codes floating about? And No, won’t order thru Neal’s Gadgets….

Fin has some but you need to request the code via his thread.

Anyone having issues with FF-light? Emails have been getting ignored but weren’t before I paid and the site was offline for some time and no DHL tracking number has been sent.

If you were inadvertently holding down the button while screwing on the cap, this is a factory reset. I haven’t done one so I am not sure if it goes into muggle mode.

Anyone flashed new firmware on the light? Can I use emissar’s flashing kit on this light?

Just got mine in and the pin layout doesn’t match the Emisar programming tool. I wonder if FireFlies sells a programming tool?

Why can’t there be one standard

I’ve made a programming key for the pl47G2 myself and updated successfully to newer firmware.
Just buy some pogo pins 0.68mm(can be bought on aliexpress or Fasttech) and a Progkey
The thickness of the board must be 0.8mm, so it’s important you select the option ” 2 oz copper, 0.8mm…”

Did you build the firmware yourself or did you use a hex file ? I remember seeing a repository of some recent hex builds but I can’t seem to find it again.

Hex file, I got it from here

Excellent, thank you.

I see that the PL47G2 is listed as sold out on ff-light.com awaiting gen 3. Any word on when gen 3 will be out, or what features it might have? I’d love to see a constant current driver + RGB aux, but that might be dreaming.

Damn, lots a renovating going on over at FF. Lotsa new.

Just had a PL47 G2 die after 10 months. Went bright, switch not responding, became too hot to remove battery until smoke started to come out resulting in its death. Bit scary having these on your head if there’s a chance of these failures happening.

The battery actually vented? Wonder what caused it to happen

Spectacular and dangerous failure :open_mouth:

I have one PL47 G2 with LEDs flickering between a higher and lower level a bit at turbo and nearly turbo levels, otherwise, at lower modes, it is working fine.

I used to be a dealer for Fireflies, but decided to just refund buyers instead of going through the replacement process. Replacements were only offered with my next order which was a hassle. As a shop I need replacements sent as I need them, not with a new order. I stopped being a dealer as the QC issues were too much on my first and only order. I’m not knocking Jack or Fireflies as the service was just fine, it was the product that had one too many issues that I ended up selling most off at near cost or at a loss.

Spoke with two other dealers and they haven’t experienced the same problems, so maybe I received a bad batch of every single model? One E01 was just a dead head in the box without a body lol who packed my order! Had switches with aux lights not working, stiff switches, sharp battery slots cutting wraps I had to sand down, firmware’s different to what was specified, orings getting cut (replaced with smaller Convoy orings), two faulty E01’s, scratches, magnetic tail caps with glue overflowing down the side etc etc etc

In all fairness it was during Covid when everything was a real mess, but as a dealer and first time order you’d think it would have been packed/checked with a little more care.
