Fitting LEDs pupils for eyes on rooftop Gargoyle project

You know, this might be a really good idea as well. Thank you. I hadn’t thought of that. If not for my gargoyle, maybe for my Cerberus statue I plan on having made out of bronze. This statue is super expensive compared to gargoyle. It wouldn’t damage the statue I would think.

So I could maybe paint the phosphor onto eyes? I am sure this would not ruin bronze? Easily removed? I did some googling and looks like there are lots of colors you could do.

Might still try gargoyle with LEDs to test out idea. If I ruin it, I will not be devastated. On the other hand, I definitely do not want to mess up my “life size” bronze Cerberus statue!

I know. I am torn between tract home HOA and home with land and more isolation. I am a single guy, I don’t want to be like hermit. Although, I don’t want to be the creepy single guy in neighborhood who has left over candy on Halloween! LOL

Lol. I try not to make it a habit of being banned from forums! But it has happened lol
I want to start a popular forum so I can ban people and feel important!

You all will have to bear with me til I move, but I will definitely update thread with pics and stuff. Probably not until February though

Yo, moderator! He mentioned CPF in here! Gotta ban him right away!!

LOL! You’re a nice guy, but you use weird words. What is this ‘b…’ ‘ba…’ ‘ban’ (is that how you pronounce it, “ban”??) you speak of? I don’t think those exist here. You’re among Friends.

As you’ve noticed, asking for ideas will get you buried. Some of the brightest bulbs on the tree come from here. It’s hard to keep up, but here’s my best shot:

LASER beams!

Cheap, low-power red LASER pointer diodes wouldn’t blind anyone (especially if you aim them where no one can stand, like at a knot hole high on a tree or the shingles of a neighbor’s house), and would hardly be noticeable until it became foggy outside. Like on Halloween night… You DO have a Fog Generator for the best holiday of the year don’t you???

Green would be pretty, even if you had to save money by scrounging one. There’s a lot of shrill hysteria over green LASERs, so be careful.

As for Cerebus, what if you put some sort of sparkly dust on the eyes then mounted LASERs nearby to hit the eyes? A UV beam wouldn’t be very detectable even in the dark, until it hit a phosphor…

In a light fog, it would look like the beams were coming out of the flaming eyes… Especially if you mounted the LASERs close together…

I can only imagine what phosphorescent paint with reflective glass beads in it would be like!

Look for me at Halloween!!!

Dim

Great ideas everyone! I hope you can all follow through with continued help when it comes time to buy supplies.
So are you saying to use phosphor type paint on eyes and then focus a laser rather than UV scattered light? When laser cause any type of damage to bronze statue? I am thinking no? Are the lasers something that would only be on for special occasions? If I wanted to have a set-up indoors that was turned on for extended times, maybe small UV is best? Yeah, the Cerberus will be inside lol. Do those fog generators cause any harm to indoor stuff like paint on walls or furniture or electronics? Residue? Or are they pretty benign? Can animals play in it? Toxic? I have cats lol

It’s an underarm deodorant… not sure if they still make it.

mx_599, you've managed to get some fun creative thinking going. Lots of good ideas so far.

Looking forward to next spring when you get ready to do this. I don't have any experience with phosphor paints other than indoor stuff. This stuff was white in normal light, but different colors in UV. It was back in my more free spirited days. We had a living room that was white in normal light, but really wild in UV. Unfortunately, you could slightly see some of it when the sun was shining in through the windows.

I imagine most art supply stores could help you out. I'm guessing you would want something durable like an enamel or something. Hopefully, they have normal light colors that closely match you subjects.

That explains my abject ignorance on the subject!

And why my eyes water, reaching for the keyboard!

Yes. Except for the focus. The word I would use is “aim”…

I’m thinking you’re right. You’ll notice the shrill hysteria over scary green lasers seems to have spread to ALL of them. Anything strong enough to be seen is likely to be burned at the stake, these days. Sic semper ignoramus, I guess…

The one I have uses e-cigarette “vape juice”. It seems fine, every time we use it. No smell, no ill effects, just fog.

OTOH, the one I linked isn’t so sophisticated. It uses Dry Ice in water and a muffin fan, so the danger is that of slightly increased environmental CO2, which isn’t that big of a deal if you don’t live in a Thermos bottle.

As to the indoor doggie, the “look” (sorry, if I don’t pun it, no one will) I had in mind was to rig the beam( s ) to look like his baleful stare burning a hole in something… I can’t imagine damaging such a statue, and would strongly advise against doing so. I doubt paint or any light we’re “allowed” to beam on it would cause any harm at all.

And don’t forget the “sparkles”! Reflective glass beads mixed with the paint will give you an extra “kick”… And if the beams aren’t visible, passers-by will cause the eyes to “blink” as their legs break the beam… At least it works that way in my empty head!

Most important of all, and I think everyone here can agree this is extremely important:

TAKE PICTURES!!! (And post them here, of course!)

Thanks!
(EDIT: PS - I completely forgot Cerberus has three heads! So just “*3” everything I just said about him.)

Oh . Yeah . The guy with the creepy gargoyles ...

heh heh heh
