Flashlights For Ghost Hunting

You seem to blindly dismiss what you do not want to believe, though.

You should understand that when someone has had a “paranormal experience” (of any kind), they have little choice but to believe something odd / impossible happened.
Again, in our culture it is rare and you would have to seek for it, and even that’s no guarantee for experiencing / witnessing something.

But because of the ridicule of nitwits, people tend to keep it to themselves, or at least not go public with it.

I think you’re pleading from ignorance.
It’s fine if you have no reason to believe in anything supernatural.
But you (and many) seem to think you can decide for others what to believe or not.

Good. :+1:
You shouldn’t.

Yeah, okay.
Maybe i made more of it than it was.
Sorry.

Fun with the spookiness surrounding the dead.
People are strange, aren’t they…

I don’t need Wikipedia to tell me what to think of my shared and personal experiences and my further research into the matter and related matters.

…or News Today.

I only said “it seems”.

We’re not supposed to do it.
And for good reasons.
I never claimed otherwise.

As for Luke 16:29, this (Rich man and Lazarus) is apparently adapted folklore to convey a message, which is not uncommon in the Bible, so it’s not doctrine regarding the deceased, which would otherwise contradict many passages about the dead being dead, “asleep”, not conscious.
It’s debatable though. Opinions / views vary.

[edit]I think i’m missing the point you want to make with that verse…[/edit]

What do you think “aliens” are?
(but maybe we shouldn’t discuss that here either…)

Exactly. But what’s disturbing is that the topic says up-front “ghost-hunting”, yet people find it necessary to pop in and ridicule the idea.

It’s like having a “Merry Christmas” or “Happy Channukah” thread, and people wandering in and making fun of The Believers, ridiculing them.

No wonder the world’s all f’ed up. No can just leave people be. Don’t believe what they believe? Great. Just smile, nod, and keep walking. No need to call ’em idiots or mental or whatever.

a torch with ghost viewer possibilities! And a bottle of whiskey!

‘If I claim to be a wise man, it surely means that I don’t know…’

Hi, to nobody in particular: Please don’t argue. It’s preferable to drop the subject.

Dropped like a ton of bricks :smiling_imp:

Its always aliens until it is :smiling_imp:

Cheers David

It’s the internet…back in the day if you said something insulting you had to run the risk of getting socked in the nose because it was face to face. Now we have a generation or two that has been utterly vile to random strangers with no risk involved. Pity them and move along they’re not worth the effort.

If only it was possible... :D

So, you think skepticism is healthy, but you don’t believe skeptics and others who have a viewpoint different from your own should have the right you have to argue their case? They are dishonest to have an opinion different from yours? They are “pseudo-intellectual” “lobbyists” who are disrespectful of other viewpoints because they don’t happen to share those viewpoints and choose, as you do, to voice their opinions? Who gets to decide what is superstition and what is supernatural, but real? You? Wow.

The argument that it must be true if a lot of people believe it has been proven to be not only irrational but dangerous. Mass delusion is popular and leads to pain, suffering, and even death.

If people want to believe in ghosts, and want to try to find them with flashlights, I have no problem with that. I think I deserve the same respect in return, and certainly in this forum I’m entitled to it, as is everyone else.

Please drop the subject.

Okay, reply deleted.

I do value everyone’s opinion as they all have their merits even the ones being intentionally incite full, but a weird thing happened to me the last week of December. My wife decorated the house in the traditional christian manner. I worked late xmas eve, came home everyone was sleeping. My silly kids set their alarms for a minute past midnight. Just as i was dozing off, i heard a noise in the living room. The alarms went off and the kids woke their mom to get permission to open the presents. I told them to wait because I don’t think Santa was in the living room. Don’t remember which flashlight I grabbed, but we walked into the room and there it was. The grinch. It took the form of our new kitten. Not only did he open some of the presents but the tinsel which my wife wrapped around the tree spirally was unwrapped from the tree without the tree being knocked over and not one ornament broken!!

Choose not to believe but there’s a Christmas, a Jesus, a God, And a hundred years from now no one will have seen the grinch…but they WILL believe

Sorry rule #3

So breaking forum rules is fine if you issue a faux apology?

The rule sez don’t discuss religion or politics. I made a statement. You’re discussing it.

I would like to sincerely apologize to anyone I offended or whose beliefs I challenged. If it means we can move on and talk about the things we have in common (flashlights) instead of our differences, then I really am sorry that I upset anyone by anything I said. Can we PLEASE all be friends…or at least friendly?

SO - Can we talk about flashlights now?

On the upside, this discussion was one I brought up with friends yesterday and we were compiling a list of lights that we would take on different adventures like this.

We talked about different lights that would best serve for ghost hunting (infrared, UV and lights better suited for indoors use) and lights for cryptozoology (outdoors lights with great throw, but also highly portable on long treks).

One that we kept coming back to was any light to enhance night vision devices.

I figured that in addition to something like a WK30 reflowed to white/IR/UV, you’d also want PredatorVision™ to be able to see in various parts of the spectrum beyond the razor-sliver of spectrum we call visible.

We have x-ray telescopes, radiotelescopes, etc., to view stars and such, so…

Won’t “ghosts” struggle using the weejee board , the “ghosts “ from the olden days spoke in old English ,a lot especially the poor couldn’t even read or write ,it must be awfully confusing for the poor souls ,do you think they have a translator?

To the original question about “Are we overlooking areas of interest that could attract new members?” Yes. I believe that 95% of members would not encourage delusional behavior or members. If this had been in the twilight zone catagory I would not have commented. It should not be in “General info”. For anyone that wants to see this paranormal stuff and psychics and all related issues exposed check out the documentary “An honest liar” about James Randi. There is plenty of his stuff on YouTube.
